Foreword: This issue takes stock of 10 controversial pranks by Premier League stars, including a pig's head that rocks the team. Pranks have always been the coming-of-age rites of premier league players, but sometimes the steps of jokes are too big, and even pig heads, canned fish and air guns appear in these events...
The Premier League and pranks complement each other like curry rice, fish and chips or cereal with milk. The team's training ground, in particular, is a lively hub, where energetic young people gather and laugh at each other with the ball, and it can be said that every footballer has at least one untold joke story about himself. Although they do not disclose these specific contents to the outside world, the veteran players after retirement do not care so much, and they can always talk about their stories when interviewed by the news media.
Here are the top 10 classic pranks in Premier League history.
- 1. Dropped trophies
After City won consecutive domestic trebles in the Premier League, FA Cup and League Cup in the 18/19 season, the morale of the team also reached its peak. So naturally, they decided to organize a prank that would involve their happy and unsuspecting fans as well.
Kevin de Bruyne and Sergio Aguero hosted a number of fans at the club's training ground, where they had fun and took photos with the Premier League trophy.
It's just that it's not really a Premier League trophy, and while everyone is busy celebrating, De Bruyne and Aguero cleverly throw the trophy behind the stands and watch it smash into the ground below.
Dropped "Trophies"
Before fans were told it was just a fake, the shocked faces of many people couldn't help but make the players laugh, which was a simple and effective prank.
- 2. Don't shoot
The Ashley Cole affair also sparked ridicule from away fans
For reasons that remain unclear, Ashley Cole decided to bring an air rifle to Chelsea's training at Cobham base in 2011. Carrying guns was already a big problem, but what happened later made it worse.
While "frolicking" in the locker room, Cole shot at unsuspecting intern Tom Cowan from about five feet away.
Chelsea scrambled to deliver elaborate treatment to the poor Loughborough University sports science student and organised an internal team meeting to ensure the student did not make charges against the England defender.
Under UK law, the incident can be considered actual bodily harm, punishable by up to five years in prison and an unlimited fine. According to The Athletic, Cole was fined his two-week salary — around £220,000.
- 3. Smoke bomb horror
It's Chelsea again! Ashley Cole isn't the only one turning Cobham into a war zone. Reserve midfielder Jacob Mehlis has also tried to add to the bad taste of Chelsea's training ground.
A year after the Cole incident, Melis and teammate Billy Clifford brought a smoke bomb from the paintball expedition into training and threw it away.
The outcome of things is not very interesting. The training center was evacuated and the fire brigade was called out to deal with a possible fire. The incident completely changed the fate of both players: 21-year-old Melis was sacked by Chelsea and Clifford was fined after being investigated by the club. The ascendancy of the two stars of hope was gone.
- 4. Fishy Maserati
This prank is quite classic, and his protagonist is none other than the famous Mario Balotelli. The player is known for his childish behavior at Manchester City – think about setting off fireworks in his bathroom, throwing darts at his teammates and so on – but this time he was the victim.
The 20-year-old returned from a two-week tour in the summer of 2011 to find his teammates hiding canned fish in his £150,000 Maserati car before the team set off.
"The smell really made him (Balotelli) sick. It made him sick. A team source later told The Sun.
"There were flies in the car, and the leather seats in the back were full of rotting fish."
There is no doubt that Balotelli got the "reward" of his previous pranks on his teammates.
- 5. A pig's head
Former Stoke City player Blake Shay shared a photo of a pig's head
The locker room in Stoke City is no stranger to the quirky pranks of around 2013, but this time it's escalated.
It all started with Jon Walters' coat being put on the toilet, so the striker naturally bought a pig's head to put in Matthew Estherington's locker, and some red trout in his shoes and laundry bag.
Problems followed. Estherington thought it was made by Glenn Whelan, so he put the pig's head in what he thought Whelan's locker. But that locker belonged to Kenwin Jones.
Walters said he tried to explain, but to no avail.
"So Kenwin went out and took a brick and smashed Glenn Whelan's car window with a brick because he only heard Glenn Whelan's name — and drove home." Walters later told talkSPORT reporters.
Jones's outrage stemmed from his belief that there might be religious discrimination behind it.
"My wife was Muslim at the time, and all the different factions in the Muslim community wrote to my home — I don't know how they found my address — to deal with the situation." Jones said about the matter during the guest podcast, "There could have been a lot of different ways to work it out. ”
- 6. Car pancakes
Michael Owen's car was covered with flour and eggs
After the chaos of the Pig's Head Incident, another offbeat prank takes place within the Stoke City team.
"I remember when Michael Owen played for Stoke City, we stayed in a hotel." Peter Crouch told the story on that own podcast.
"Someone wrapped his entire car with eggs and flour. No one knew who it was for months, and everyone wanted to know who did it. Irving was angry and left the team at the end of the season. ”
Walters and Hut later posted a photo of themselves holding napkins that read, "Guess what we did?" And a rough photo of a car.
Walters and Hut
Owen retweeted the photo on Twitter, pretending he thought it was all funny. "After weeks of investigation, the culprits of eggs and flour have finally confessed!!! he wrote. ”
——7.“ Secret" lockers
Gerald Pique has been playing for Barcelona since 2008, but he started his career at Manchester United.
The Spanish defender played for Manchester United between 2004 and 2008, but he left his mark on people in a different way than playing on the pitch.
Rio Ferdinand tells the story on a show with Derry Ali and Kyle Walker.
"Pique, he was angry when he was there, I think he was being teased and then he peed in some locker in the dressing room."
When I was in Milton Keynes, I heard about people pulling in someone else's boots, so when the boots were on their feet, the victim went straight in. Ali echoed his experience.
"Urine, poop and my food... I don't like those pranks. Ferdinand concluded.
- 8. Fake phone calls
David Bentley was teased by Robbie Savage in Blackburn
It's a classic prank.
The protagonists were Robbie Savage and David Bentley of Blackburn in 2005/06, and then England manager Steve McLaren.
Savage knew that England's new big list was about to be announced, so he pretended to be McLaren to call Bentley.
"I picked up the phone and called everyone in the England team to express my joy at being selected." Bentley recalled at BT Sport. "Half an hour later, I got a call from the real Steve McLaren! I'm like , 'What... You just called me? '”
- 9. Burn the sausages
Imagine this scenario: Peter Schmeichel is showering, teammate Nikki Bart is holding a kettle filled with hot water, and Bart tries to quietly approach Schmeichel and plans to pour water on his teammate's butt.
The problem, however, was that Schmeichel turned around at an inopportune moment and threw the boiling water out of the kettle in Bart's hand.
The Danish goalkeeper was furious that his XX had been hit by boiling water. However, as Stam writes in his book, "Barthes had to flee desperately to survive, and it was Schmeichel who was chasing after him."
- 10. Savage's "return"
The protagonist of the story is again Savage to complete. The self-styled king of Premier League football was sent off for a red card in 2002 against Aston Villa for Leicester City.
Savage protested Pol's move to punish him
Allegedly, in protest of the decision, Savage entered the room of referee Graham Ball, defecated in the toilet and left without flushing.
Savage's dirty protests did not escape punishment afterwards, with Pohr documenting the details of the incident in his referee's report, and Savage was accused by the FA of misconduct.
Leicester City fined Savage two weeks' salary, although the midfielder claimed to have actually gone to the toilet before the game due to an upset stomach and not after being sent off.
That's an expensive poop. 【Daily Star】
