Palin is also known as the American Impressionist in the Boston School tradition, which is not surprising, as his greatest influences were the American painters John Singh Sargent, Edmund Tabel and Frank Benson, and the French painter Henri Fontaine Latour. Other major influencers include Diego Velázquez, Johannes Vermeer, Thomas Devin, Maxfield Parrish, Joseph De Camp, Joaquin Aurora, and many others. As a former member of the Boston Artists' Association, Mr. Palin's paintings were intended to express his great love of the beauty he saw around him, especially in his surroundings.
