On Monday, the ATP and WTA released the latest edition of the world rankings, and several more players set new career highs this week, the most noteworthy of which was Spain's Carlos Alcaraz.
Alcaraz won his second tour title of his career by winning consecutive victories over berrettini, Fognini and Schwartzmann in the ATP500 Rio tournament. After winning the Rio race, Alcaraz rose from 29th to 20th in the world rankings this week, surpassing his idol Nadal (18 years and 305 days) at 18 years and 292 days to become the youngest player in the top 20.
On September 24, 2020, Alcaraz was ranked in the top 200 for the first time in the world rankings; on May 24, 2021, he was among the top 100 for the first time in the world; after the end of last year's US Open, Alcaraz broke into the top 50 for the first time; after the end of this year's Australian Open, Alcaraz entered the top 30 for the first time; and this week he broke into the world's top 20 for the first time.
Alcaraz isn't the only player to set a new career high, with Büblick rising from no. 31 in the world to 30th this week, the first time in his career that he has reached the top 30. U.S. Player Tommy Paul reached the world's top 40 (No. 39) for the first time this week after reaching the final four at Dre Beach.
In this week's WTA rankings, Bardoza rose from no. 5 in the world to no. 4 in the world, making her the 64th player to enter the top four since the WTA ranking system. Of the 64 players, 27 have reached the top of the world, 12 have been ranked second in the world, 13 have been ranked third in the world, and 12 have been ranked fourth in the world.
