The Rockets announced today that they have hired former Grizzlies and Celtics general manager Chris Wallace as the team's new scouting director, and the Rockets expect him to provide experience and expertise to general manager Rafael Stone during the rebuild.
Wallace was hired by the Grizzlies in 2007 as general manager and vice president of basketball operations, replacing Jerry West. His first move with the Grizzlies was to select Mike Conley with the fourth overall pick in 2007.
In addition, Wallace personally facilitated a multi-person trade between the Grizzlies and the Lakers, sending Paul Gasol to Los Angeles, exchanging his brother Mark Gasol for the rebuilding of the Grizzlies.
In 2019, the Grizzlies reappointed Wallace as a scout after promoting Zach Kleiman to executive vice president of basketball operations. Prior to joining the Grizzlies, Wallace also spent 10 years as general manager for the Celtics.
