The report shows that due to the impact of the Spring Festival holiday, the sales volume of the domestic passenger car market in February fell sharply compared with January, but it still maintained a slight growth compared with February 2021, and the overall performance of the passenger car market was good.

In February, car sales were announced, and passenger cars increased by 4.2% year-on-year and fell by 40% month-on-month!

According to the data, the retail sales of the domestic narrow passenger car market in February 2022 were 1.246 million units, a slight increase of 4.2% year-on-year compared with 1.196 million units in the same period last year. Compared with 2.078 million units in January this year, it fell 40.0% month-on-month.

Among them, the sales volume of the sedan market in February was 597,000 units, an increase of 6.1% year-on-year and 40.4% month-on-month; the retail sales of the MPV market were only 66,000 units, a slight increase of 1.7% year-on-year and a decrease of 34.4% from January; and the sales volume of the SUV market was 583,000 units, an increase of 2.6% year-on-year and a decrease of 40.3% month-on-month.

From January to February 2022, the cumulative retail sales of the domestic narrow passenger car market were 3.324 million units, a slight decrease of 1.8% compared with 3.383 million units in the same period last year, basically maintaining the sales level of the same period last year.

Among them, the cumulative retail sales of the sedan market from January to February were 1.598 million units, down 2.0% year-on-year from 1.630 million units in the same period last year; the cumulative sales volume of the MPV market was 168,000 units, down 6.0% from 178,000 units in the same period last year; and the cumulative sales volume of the SUV market was 1.559 million units, down 1.0% compared with 1.575 million units in the same period last year.

In terms of wholesale sales, the narrow passenger car market sold 1.455 million units in February this year, higher than retail sales, compared with 1.147 million units in the same period last year, an increase of 26.9% year-on-year, and down 32.6% month-on-month compared with 2.158 million units in January. This year's Spring Festival in early February, more conducive to the main engine factory scheduled production, passenger car shipments also increased significantly year-on-year.

Among them, the wholesale sales of the sedan market in February were 682,000 units, an increase of 27.9% year-on-year and 33.4% month-on-month; the wholesale sales of the MPV market were 53,000 units, an increase of 11.9% year-on-year and 35.5% month-on-month; and the wholesale sales of the SUV market were 720,000 units, an increase of 27.3% year-on-year and 31.5% month-on-month.

From January to February 2022, the narrow passenger car market sold 3.612 million units in wholesale, an increase of 13.6% year-on-year. Among them, the cumulative wholesale sales of the sedan market were 1.707 million units, an increase of 12.9% year-on-year; the cumulative wholesale sales of the MPV market were 135,000 units, an increase of 1.1% year-on-year; and the wholesale sales of the SUV market were 1.770 million units, an increase of 15.4% year-on-year.

Sales of new energy vehicles were also affected by the Spring Festival factor, and sales fell month-on-month. Retail sales in the new energy vehicle market in February were 272,000 units, down 22.6% from 352,000 units in January. However, compared with 97,000 units in the same period last year, it still increased by 180.5%.

Of course, the rise in the price of new energy vehicles brought about by the decline in new energy subsidies and battery prices this year has also had an impact on the sales of new energy vehicles in February.

From January to February 2022, the cumulative retail sales of the new energy vehicle market were 624,000 units, an increase of 153.1% year-on-year, and the increase was still gratifying.

The overall situation of independent brands in February was good, with retail sales reaching 540,000 units, an increase of 14% year-on-year, exceeding the 4.2% increase in retail sales in the narrow passenger car market, and the retail share reached 44%, an increase of 4.3 percentage points year-on-year, outperforming the market. But compared to January, sales fell 42% month-on-month.

Mainstream joint venture brands sold 550,000 units in February, down 1% year-on-year and down 36% from January. Among them, the market share of Japanese brands was 23.1%, an increase of 1.6 percentage points year-on-year; the share of German brands was 20.5%, a decrease of 4 percentage points year-on-year; and the share of American brands was 9.1%, a year-on-year decrease of 0.6 percentage points.

Retail sales of luxury cars in February were 160,000 units, down 3% year-on-year and 44% from January. As january, the peak car buying season before the Spring Festival, luxury car sales increased significantly month-on-month, and it is normal for sales to weaken in February.

Faw-Volkswagen remained the leader in February's sales rankings, with retail sales of 105,000 units, down 9.6% year-on-year. BYD Automobile jumped to second place, with sales of 89,000 units, up 340.4% year-on-year. SAIC Volkswagen, SAIC-GM, Geely Automobile, Dongfeng Nissan, FAW Toyota, SAIC-GM-Wuling, Dongfeng Honda, Guangqi Honda and other car companies entered the top ten in terms of sales.
