Competition in the automotive space has incorporated too much of the color of tech companies. Since Huawei's new car can be released in the line of fire, it is not unusual for Sony to launch its own products, but Sony's products will be built by Honda.
Tech giant Sony's development of electric vehicles itself is a struggle with the impact of Apple's car, and honda's involvement has made things more and more real. At the very least, it's a big deal of cooperation between the auto industry and tech companies.
Sony's intention to produce electric vehicles has a long history, and even showed off the Vision-S 01 sedan and the Vision-S 02 SUV concept car. Due to the lack of infrastructure and experience in car manufacturing, Sony has not explicitly stated that it wants to actually produce a car product.
Now, Sony and Honda have finally issued a joint statement that Honda will produce a car for the international tech giant as a result of a joint venture between the two companies. Under the agreement between the two companies, the two companies will jointly develop and sell high value-added pure electric vehicles, commercialize them, and provide mobility services.
Obviously, the joint venture will leverage Honda's mature automotive manufacturing system, supply chain and marketing experience or network, while Sony will help in electronics, sensors, communications and entertainment technology. The new electric vehicle was jointly developed by Honda and Sony to gain a competitive edge in terms of cost and technology.
According to the plan, Honda will produce this new electric vehicle on the existing production facility, and the launch time is expected to be in 2025. During this period, Sony may launch a new "mobile service platform" for vehicles, which is estimated to include a new infotainment system and advanced driver assistance technology.
It is uncertain whether the agreement will affect Honda's own electric vehicle development plan and whether the new company will build a new brand. It is believed that for both companies, this new car will become a useful attempt to accumulate experience for future development.
