Nagase Tomoyuki also said goodbye to word of mouth in front of the curtain

Nagase Tomoyuki also said goodbye to word of mouth in front of the curtain

The winter Japanese drama "My Family's Story" recently aired the grand finale. Screenwriter Kankuro Miyato has gathered a group of old partners who have worked together seamlessly: producer Kei Isoyama, director Fumiki Kaneko, actors Tomoya Nagase, Toshiyuki Nishida, Eika Toda, and the popular Janis Jr. Doe Branch Junyou. It is worth mentioning that "My Family Story" is most likely the last episode of Tomoya Nagase: he left the Janis office in March this year and quit the curtain to go behind the scenes. For Tomoya Nagase, Miyaku and fans, this is the best parting gift.

Familiar Miyaku Brain Hole: Noh Mashup Wrestling

Audiences familiar with "Gong Jiu" (the nickname of screenwriter Miyato Kankuro) will surely exclaim after seeing the story synopsis of "My Family's Story": "Isn't this the 2021 version of "Tiger and Dragon"? "The Tiger and the Dragon," aired in 2005, is Miyaku's work: the play is based on the traditional Japanese art of Rakugo (similar to Chinese stand-up comedy), and the protagonist, Yamazaki Torah, is a jerk who forgets how to laugh, but becomes a Rakugo apprentice because he feels the charm of Rakugo, and is determined to make fun of others on stage. The series adopts a large number of "drama within a play" form, and the modern plot and traditional rakugo stories are interspersed and echo each other. Misplaced characters, exquisite story structure, and relaxed rhythms – this drama is undoubtedly the epitome of the "Gongjiu style".

16 years later, in "The Story of My Family", Miyaku matsuri offered another traditional Japanese art, Noh. Noh is a type of Japanese song and dance drama in which the characters dressed in gorgeous costumes and masks push the story forward with their lines and dances, and every subtle movement has a profound meaning. Even for Japanese audiences, "Noh" is a distant and unfamiliar traditional art, and "My Family's Story" just happens to popularize this art form. Like Tiger Yamazaki in Tigers and Dragons, the protagonist of My Family's Tale, Kanyama Shouichi, also has a dual identity that is not matched by the wind and horses: he is both the heir of the traditional Noh family and a former professional wrestler. One is the traditional art of classical elegance, the other is the Western movement of hormones, why did you choose these two professions for the male protagonist? The answer given by the show's producer, Isoyama Jing, is also full of humor: "Because both need to wear masks!" ”

In the play, the protagonist Kanyama Shouichi makes a comeback in the professional wrestling world as a "super Shi Ami machine", Shi Ami is a big figure in the noh world, and Shouichi's wrestling action design also incorporates many noh dance moves. Noh dramas such as "Hagoromo", "Earth Spider", and "Sumida River" appear in the play, echoing the plot. Throughout the second half of the series, "Sumida River", which tells the story of the separation of mother and son, is a major foreshadowing, and it hints at the end of the episode early.

Hilarious family stories: "Reconciliation" became the theme

In "My Family's Story", the protagonist Kanyama Shouichi, played by Tomoya Nagase, was forced to quit the professional wrestling world due to injury, and at this time received news that his father, Kanyama Shouzaburō, who was a famous musician and known as the "National Treasure of the World", was seriously ill. Taking this as an opportunity, Shouyi returned to his hometown where he had not contacted for more than 20 years. Due to care and inheritance issues, Shouichi and his younger sister Mai (Noriko Eguchi), younger brother Suke (Nagayama Shudou), Kanzan Ryu's eldest disciple and adopted son Shou Ji Wu (Kenta Kiritani), and mysterious female nurse Sakura (Toda Eirika) gather under the same roof.

When it comes to family-themed Japanese dramas, it always feels full of "Showa flavor" - Japanese society hit by low birthrate and aging, small families and even celibacy have become the mainstream, and now most Japanese dramas try to tell the audience "how good it is to live alone", and those Japanese dramas where a large family get together and noisy have long been the products of the last century. However, Gong Jiu mentioned in an interview that he hopes that "My Family's Story" can make the audience feel the feeling of "family": "Many families in reality have stopped eating together and watching TV together. But I think at least the audience can see that there are still such families in the world of television. ”

In the setting of producer Isoyama Jing and screenwriter Miyato Kankuro, "My Family's Story" is a film based on the theme of "Family is so good!" "The King's Way (Orthodox) Family TV Series for the main theme." However, Gong Jiu, who has always been known for his strange brain holes, added a lot of fantastic ideas to this drama, so that "My Family's Story" avoids most of the common diseases of family TV series or pretending to be warm or bitter. The drama deliberately dissolves the authority of Kanyama Shousaburo, the head of the family: after waking up from a cerebral infarction, he suddenly announces that he is engaged to the female nurse Sakura, wears a cute pink silicone head cover when he bathes, and the wish list reads such as "I want Fujii Nicole (a popular Japanese beauty artist) to recite a eulogy for me" and other uncontrolled wishes... After falling ill, Shousaburo seems to have become a three-year-old child, often making people cry and laugh, but the family atmosphere is getting more and more harmonious.

Strictly speaking, Shousaburo is not a "good man". Like most men of traditional arts families, his relationship between men and women is quite chaotic: his wife becomes a tool for childbearing and dies early; Shousaburo is a mercurial personality, with many confidants on the outside; the adopted son Shou Ji Wu is actually his illegitimate son with a maid, and Shou Ji Wu himself has been in the dark... How children face this father, who was once irresponsible and now lacks self-care ability, is also a major focus of the series. This drama has no intention of "whitewashing" the father's faults, and the children's attitude of "I do not forgive, but I am still willing to reconcile with you" presents a more complex and realistic parent-child relationship.

Tomomo Nagase also bid farewell to the work: a party of old friends

For fans of Miyato Andokuro and Tomoya Nagase, "My Story" is even more significant: this is the second TV series collaboration between Nagase and Miyaku after 11 years, and it is also Nagase Tomoya's farewell work in front of the curtain. The final episode of "My Family's Story" has a shocking reversal, forming a wonderful intertext with reality: in the play, The person in the play holds a grand farewell ceremony for Kanyama Shouichi, played by Tomoya Nagase, and fans outside the show seem to be able to say goodbye to Nagase Tomoya.

Miyato Kankuro and Nagase Cane can also be said to be mutual achievements. In 2000, Nagase also starred in Miyato Kankuro's regular television screenwriting debut, Ikebukuro Nishiguchi Park, the first collaboration between the two. He plays Makoto Majima, whose hearty performance complements Miyaku's off-line comedy style, opening up new plays for him. At that time, Miyato Kankuro became a blockbuster and won the Best Screenplay Award at the Japanese Drama Academy Awards with this drama. It is worth mentioning that the drama also gathers actors such as Yosuke Watsuka, Satoshi Muchi, and 15-year-old Tomohisa Yamashita, and is still a representative work of Japanese youth group portrait drama. Since then, Miyato Kankuro and Nagase Tomomo have also cooperated in dramas such as "Tiger and Dragon" and "Narcissistic Criminal Police", all of which have become classics. Among the few films directed by Miyaku, Nagase has served as the male lead in Mr. Yaji and Mr. Kita in the Middle Of the Night and TOO YOUNG TO DIE. Miyaku said, "In my mind, Nagase is like the protagonist of a serial shonen manga. I can still create for him, no matter how much I create, please let me create for him. Little who like rakugo, criminal police officers with love physiques, ghosts from hell... No matter how strange the setting, it's absolutely fun. ”

"The Story of My Family" is a story tailored by Miyaku for Tomoya Nagase. The story was conceived five years ago, and producer Kei Isoyama revealed: "This work contains a lot of Nagase's own ideas, and Miyaku has been saying: 'This is Nagase's highest masterpiece at present!'" For the show, Nagase began growing his long hair and gaining weight more than a year ago, bringing his appearance closer to that of a wrestler. Miyaku sighed, "The only person who can start exercising to prepare for the episode without question is Nagase." ”

The cast of "My Family's Story" is like a gathering of Miyaku and Nagase's old friends. Toshiyuki Nishida, who played his father in the drama, and Tomoyuki Nagase, also played the mentor and apprentice in "Tiger and Dragon" and the father and son in "Narcissistic Criminal Police". Miyaku described the two actors as "very compatible", while Isoyama revealed that many of the plots in the play were improvised by them. The eldest familiar face in Miyaku's work, Araragawa Ryoyoshi, played the role of the nurse Suehiro Ryo in the play, contributing a lot of laughs.

In addition, "Master Brother" Sadao Abe in "Tiger and Dragon", Takashi Tsukamoto in "Ginjiro", "Ahiro" Takata Sato in "Ikebukuro Nishiguchi Park", and "Noborito Criminal Police" Muro in "Narcissistic Criminal Police" all starred in "My Family's Story".
