Former Liverpool defender Carragher has always been known for his bizarre rhetoric since retiring as a commentator, but his latest proposal may come as a surprise. In a column for the British media, the former England defender suggested that United should seize the critical period of Chelsea's current turmoil and invite Blues manager Tuchel. Carragher said: "United have been given the ideal opportunity to recruit a coach who should have been United's number one target: Tuchel. Yes, it would be a predatory move – taking advantage of chelsea's crisis – but from a Manchester United and Tuchel perspective, the more you care about that, the more it shows that you're a mindless person. Tuchel, like the rest of Stamford Bridge, doesn't know what the future holds for his current club. Given the sale of the club on hold, no one can assure him of how the team will perform at the beginning of next season. No coach wants to work in such a context of uncertainty. If he has the chance to leave Stamford Bridge, United must seize that opportunity. ”
However, as strange as it may seem, Carragher makes a good point and there are actually plenty of reasons why Tuchel will jump ship for Manchester United this summer. Perhaps the most important factor in all this is that United currently employ tuchel's former mentor Lonnick, who is likely to lead United in the summer in a search for a new coach. Not only did Lonnick introduce Tuchel into his coaching career after convincing him to hang up his boots and become Stuttgart's youth coach, but his style of play has also had a huge impact on the way the current Chelsea manager's team has always played. While United seemed like a risky choice for Tuchel before Lonnick arrived, they are now a club run by someone who is not only respected but undoubtedly trusted by the Chelsea manager. This can be very attractive.
If Tuchel is forced to leave Chelsea this summer for one reason or another, united are likely to be the only attractive big club job positions. The current situation is that Manchester City have Guardiola, Liverpool have Klopp, Bayern Munich have Nagelsmann, Juventus look set to continue to support Allegri, and barcelona and Real Madrid have little chance of parting ways with Xavi and Ancelotti in the summer. Aside from Manchester United, the only club that could be looking around for a new coach could be Paris Saint-Germain, and Tuchel is unlikely to rush back to his former club. So if the German coach wants to continue working after leaving Chelsea this year, United could be his only viable option.
