Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed debuted in 2007 as a sequel to the hit game Prince of Persia and quickly gained ground. Set in late 12th-century Europe, the player takes on the role of altaïr, a master Assassin who carries out assassination missions to end gang warfare. Assassin's Creed draws on the history of the Third Crusade and incorporates a fascinating 3D environment that allows players to explore 12th-century Jerusalem, Damascus, and Masyaf. So far, the game has released 12 canon sequels.
