In the early morning of April 1, Beijing time, the 2022 Snooker Tour Championship ended all four quarter-finals in Llandudno, England, and Belgian player Luca Bressell defeated England player Judd Trump 10-6 in the final first round of the battle to grab the final four places. Bressel will face Scottish "Wizard" John Higgins in the semi-finals.
The match was Bressell's first time he had beaten Trump in a ranking match. The former Chinese championship champion had previously beaten Trump in the 2017 "Crown of Champions" (Invitational), but Trump has defeated Bressel eight times in the past confrontations, taking an absolute advantage. Bressel, 27, reached the final at last year's British Championship and won the Scottish Open a week later, and will again face scottish Open final rival Higgins in the semi-finals – and at the same venue in North Wales.
Trump, who recently finished 147 in the final of the Turkish Masters and won the championship, left disappointed, and his other ranking final this season was a loss to Joe Perry at the Welsh Open.
In the quarter-finals, Bressell established a 6-2 lead in the first stage and pulled the score to 7-2 in the second stage of the late game. Trump fought back with a single 76, 103 and the tournament's current high of 140 points in the subsequent fixtures, at one point trailing 6-8. In the final minute, Bressell won the 15th set to win the match point and scored a single 73 points to lock the final score at 10-6.
Bressell said after the match: "I'm proud, winning a set here feels like winning 3 sets in other tournaments! This match also proved that I have been in excellent shape this season, after all, in a long game game to defeat such a top player. ”
"I have a good mindset, confident and patient at the same time. You have to do that in long-term games. I see this event as training for the World Championships, and winning a win is an added bonus. Hopefully I can keep the attack as much as possible. ”
Looking ahead to the upcoming semi-finals, Bressel said: "The game is going to be very difficult because John [Higgins] is a really good player. I even need to play better than I did today because Judd [Trump] still has a few more turnovers than usual. I'll take it a little bit higher. ”
