Recently, a World of Warcraft player used Unreal Engine 5 to remake the main city of Ogrima, breathing new life into the tribe's most famous city.
In the 3-minute promotional video, Ogrema achieves unprecedented high definition, the cliffs around the city have added real-time shadows, even if the fog is thick, the details of the high-rise buildings in the distance are unobstructed, and the picture is not distorted when the characters move. Although only a limited amount of content is shown, the player's work is commendable.
As we all know, the backward engine has become the biggest shackle of the nearly twenty-year-old "World of Warcraft", which can be seen in the comparison with last year's next-generation online game "New World". Unless World of Warcraft 2 is launched, it will be difficult to get a major breakthrough in gameplay.
Epic Games first unveiled Unreal Engine 5 in May 2020, featuring enclosed underground spaces and expansive landscapes in a 9-minute technology demonstration for the PS5. Subsequently, Epic's own chicken-eating game Fortnite became the first game to use the latest Unreal Engine technology.
Many large companies, including The Coalition, Konami, Crystal Dynamics, and CD Projekt Red, are embracing new engines and actively investing in the development of new games. Some folks have used new engines to recreate some of the game's famous scenes, such as artist Christian Gomm recreating the Riverwood area of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, youtube blogger Just An Idea reworking Metal Gear Solid, and fans remaking Ocarina of Time.
World of Warcraft will also be announced for the next expansion pack at Blizzard's live event on April 19, and through a leak on its official website, players already know the name of the new expansion pack: Dragonflight, which is the legendary dragon version. The new expansion pack will also be sold in three tiers, "base", "epic", and "heroic" as in the past (foreign players have to buy CDkey).
