On April 7, Lantu Dreamer, positioned as an "electric luxury flagship MPV", opened pre-sale, with a pre-price of 380,000-480,000 yuan for the 7-seat version and a customized version of 60,000 yuan. On April 9, Lantu announced that the order of dreamers has exceeded 3,000 units, and the market demand for high-end MPV is hot.
A few days ago, Denza just released a video of Denza's high-end MPV, and the new car is currently in road tests and is expected to be released in the first half of this year.
In recent years, although the MPV market is generally in a downward trend, the growth rate of the mid-to-high-end MPV market is very fast. In 2021, the overall sales volume of MPV fell by 1% year-on-year, but the decline was mainly in low-line products below 100,000 yuan, of which the average decline of 17 models was more than 14%, while the high-end MPV products represented by GL8, Accent, Odyssey, Xena, and Alpha grew steadily, further consolidating their dominant position.
The high-end MPV market is optimistic, making many car manufacturers have launched new high-end MPV models, and there are actually 6 high-end MPV models to be released this year, which can be described as the year of high-end MPV.
Lantu Dreamer
Affected by the epidemic, Lantu Dreamer, which was originally scheduled to go public on April 7, switched to opening pre-sales on the same day. Lantu Dreamer has launched a total of seven-seater and four-seat two models, with a pre-sale range of 380,000-480,000 yuan and 600,000 yuan, which can meet the needs of family travel pursuing technology and comfort and high-end business people to enjoy low-carbon travel.

Lando Dreamer is expected to be officially launched in the second quarter, with deliveries starting as soon as July.
Hongqi high-end MPV
Hongqi's high-end MPV internal code name C095, the future or be named Q9, the main high-end business MPV market. Judging from the spy photos that have been exposed by the car so far, the front face adopts the family design of the H9, with side sliding doors and through taillights.
C095 benchmarks the benchmark product on the market Toyota Alpha, but in terms of body size should fully surpass Alpha (4975 * 1850 * 1945mm, wheelbase 3000mm), that is, the length of the car is more than 5.1 meters, the width is about 2 meters, and the wheelbase is more than 3.1 meters. In terms of power, it is expected to use a combination of 2.0T+48V micromix and 3.0T supercharging, and it is expected to launch a plug-in hybrid model. The high-end model will be equipped with four-wheel drive and air suspension system. Hongqi C095 will be officially unveiled on the 17th of this month, and the price range is expected to be 300,000-500,000 yuan.
Denza MPV
Denza high-end MPV will also be released in the first half of the year, Denza MPV standard with double-sided sliding electric doors and four-door double-layer silent glass, each seat is luxurious and comfortable, and in the third row of safety focus, there are unique solutions in the seat reclining, not sacrificing safety and comfort, but also taking into account convenience and so on.
In terms of power equipment, Denza's high-end MPV models are available in two versions: EV and DM (plug-in hybrid versions, also equipped with four-wheel drive and two-wheel drive systems). Among them, the comprehensive endurance of the DM version is more than 1000km, and the comprehensive torque of the four-wheel drive is more than 600Nm. The EV version adopts an 8-in-1 integrated intelligent front-drive assembly, innovative use of motor inductance boost, battery intelligent thermal management system, etc., which strengthens the pain points of electric vehicles with short winter endurance.
Denza's high-end MPV size is also the benchmark Alpha, but due to the use of DM-i, DM-P and EV multiple power, the price range will be wider, and the price is expected to be between 300,000 and 500,000.
Extreme Krypton EF1E MPV
The second model code of Extreme Kr, EF1E, will focus on the medium and large MPV market of pure electric. Judging from the spy photos of the road test, the Extreme Kr MPV depot is expected to exceed 5 meters and the wheelbase is more than 3.2 meters. The exterior continues the design language of the 001, with a dual A-pillar design and double electric sliding doors. The interior will also roughly continue the design of the extreme krypton 001, with a large size floating central control screen.
In terms of power, the extreme krypton MPV is also expected to adopt a single and double motor design like the extreme krypton 001, reaching the power level of 200kW and 400kW respectively, and the cruising range should be about 600km. Extreme Kr MPV is expected to be released during the year, and the price is expected to be between 350,000-500,000.
FAW Toyota GRANVIA
FAW Toyota Granvia, a sister model of Guangfeng Xena, is also about to join the competition for the high-end luxury MPV market. Adhering to Toyota's two-vehicle strategy, the exterior interior of the GRANVIA is very similar to that of Xena, and there is no crown logo. The body size is 5175*1995*1765/1785mm, the wheelbase is 3060mm, and the size is almost the same except for the slightly longer length of 10mm.
In terms of power equipment, FAW Toyota GRANVIA also adopts a 2.5L hybrid system, and the maximum power of the system is 183kW. FAW Toyota GRANVIA is expected to be listed in the first half of the year, and the price should be not much different from GAC Toyota's 309,800-405,800 yuan.
WEY MPV
Wei Jianjun once said that "Great Wall's SUV products do not make cars the first in the world", but this does not prevent them from making an MPV. WEY plans to launch two MPV models, codenamed M81 and M83, and the first model is expected to be available within the year.
Judging from the spy photos of the current road test, the WEY MPV has a body of more than 5 meters and a wheelbase of more than 3 meters.
In terms of power, WEY MPV is likely to use the DHT-PHEV insertion and mixing system equipped with Mocha now, using 1.5T engine + motor, the comprehensive power of the single-motor version system exceeds 290kW, and the WLTP pure electric mileage exceeds 200km; the dual-motor four-wheel drive version system has a comprehensive power of more than 350kW, and the WLTP pure electric mileage exceeds 170km. The price of WEY MPV is expected to be around 350,000-450,000.
The total market is limited, and the competition will become more and more intense
Judging from the situation of the MPV market in recent years, the total amount of the MPV market is limited, but the low-end commercial market is shrinking, while the household market is growing rapidly, the market structure is changing, and versatility, practicality and high quality have become the key factors of MPV.
Although the high-end MPV market has grown significantly, the total volume of this market is also limited. In the case of these high-end MPV that will be released this year, most of them are more than 5 meters in length1, with a wheelbase of more than 3 meters and a width of nearly 2 meters, which exceed the size of last year's best-selling high-end MPV Toyota Alpha (length 4975mm, width 1850mm, wheelbase 3000mm). For families, to park such an MPV, the general parking space can choke, you are afraid that you have to have a yard. The more products, the more fierce the competition in the high-end MPV market, and it needs subversive product strength to stand out.
Pure electricity is not realistic, plug and mix is promising
Because of the functional design, the high-end MPV itself is more than 2 tons, and the huge body wind resistance is also very large, so the fuel consumption has been high in the past. In recent years, with the advancement of hybrid technology, Toyota and Honda have also put hybrid technology on MPV and achieved good results.
In order to achieve subversive product power, most of the new high-end MPV uses plug-in or pure electric power systems. Chinese brands that are the first to launch plug-in hybrid systems on high-end MPV are expected to get more share from joint venture brands.
The first release of the Lantu Dreamer rationally adopted the dual power of plug-in mixing and pure electricity, and the follow-up Denza MPV also adopted two versions of plug-in mixing and pure electricity, and only the extreme krypton MPV that simply used pure electricity was extremely krypton. In fact, pure electric MPV faces many constraints such as mileage and charging efficiency, and there are fewer scenes used, which is not suitable for most consumers, and the plug-in hybrid version may be very popular. More than 90% of the products using dual-powered Landu FREE are also sold in the plug-and-mix version. Zhao Changjiang, general manager of Denza Sales Division, is full of confidence: "In view of the long-distance travel during the holidays, the sense of driving stability, high-speed speeding, quietness and convenience of getting on and off, riding comfort, oil and electricity, etc., the large 7-seat MPV equipped with DM technology has obvious advantages, and the use of electricity for urban travel can also avoid the embarrassment of adding a person to a person sitting down; so we predict that the next mainstream family vehicle configuration is a large space new energy MPV + SUV / sedan configuration. Therefore, this year should be the first year of the outbreak of the mid-to-high-end MPV market. ”
Why Chinese brands should be positive
What about investing in the high-end MPV market?
Lu Fang, CEO of Lantu, once explained why Lantu should make an electric luxury MPV.
He listed 6 starting points, namely: 1, the market needs a truly low-carbon, intelligent MPV; 2, Chinese families need a family car that meets the high-quality travel of many people, and Chinese entrepreneurs need a real business car; 3, the third row of MPV is not safe enough and needs to be solved; 4, the current MPV even the second row will feel obvious road vibration and need to be solved; 5, the current MPV rarely pays attention to the driver's driving experience; 6, Lantu is both an enterprise and a user. We understand these pain points and needs, and we want to provide solutions.
There are three aspects to sum up. First of all, in terms of electrification and intelligence, China is currently at the forefront of the world, and electrification technology, especially plug-in and mixing technology, can better solve the pain points in the current use of MPV; secondly, Chinese enterprises have advantages in supporting costs and can provide more high-end configurations such as air suspension; third, cutting into the high-end field helps to enhance the image of Chinese brands.
There is also an important reason that has not been mentioned, that is, in the existing high-end MPV market, there is a basic gap of 400,000-600,000 market segments between GL8, Xena and Alpha, which belongs to the incremental market, but how much increment can be brought is still difficult to say. Whether these high-end MPV can bring new growth points to enterprises can be seen after listing this year.
