According to the Department of Tax Administration, the Ministry of Commerce and Trade recently issued Circular Order No. 5/2022, which once again included 1131 categories of commodities in the regulatory list, including imported yeast, comprehensive food, animal food, soap raw materials and chemicals. From May 1, goods on the import supervision list need to apply for an import license in advance and pay the corresponding taxes according to the international HS code tariff code number.
The news shows that this is the third time that the Ministry of Commerce and Trade has published a list of imported commodities that need to apply for a license. Previously, in addition to comprehensive food, daily necessities and chemicals, the 1131 categories of goods listed in the import supervision list also included imported products such as textile fabrics, dyes, motors, and generators.
Under the 2017 Customs tariff of myanmar, importers are required to obtain the required import permits for goods in the HS.code 10 digit of 536 or 1131. Starting in 2021, electrical appliances, food, cosmetics, daily necessities, paper products and building materials related products will be listed in the import supervision list, and import merchants need to apply for import licenses in advance when importing.
It is reported that in order to smoothly restart the economy after the epidemic and ensure the orderly development of the country's import and export trade, the Ministry of Commerce and Trade of Myanmar has repeatedly issued a new list of import supervision products, whether by sea, air or land, the goods in the import supervision list need to apply for a license in advance.
In addition, because importing enterprises and merchants disregard import and export regulations and apply for import licenses only after the goods arrive at the wharf, they are reminded by the Ministry of Commerce and Trade by name. Effective 4 April, the Trade Management Division will no longer permit goods that have arrived at domestic terminals. In order to avoid unnecessary losses, enterprises and merchants must apply for an import license in advance before the goods are loaded on the ship, and if any enterprise or merchant is found to have violated the law again, they will be held responsible according to law.
