On Tuesday, Liverpool will face Villarreal away in the second leg of the Champions League semi-finals, continuing their goal of four titles. Legendary goalscorer Collimour pointed out in a column for The Mirror that even if Liverpool eventually becomes four-time champions, such a result is far less than Manchester United's treble in 1998.
If Liverpool can win four titles this season, or how Liverpool or Manchester City can achieve this honour later, then it is obviously a remarkable achievement.
However, such achievements will not be greater than Tottenham's doubles in 1960-61, Arsenal's treble in 1970-71 or Liverpool's 1985-86, and no greater than United's treble in 11998-99, which is still the greatest achievement in the history of English football.
I can't even be sure if this is the greatest quadruple in history, as the honor certainly belongs to the Celtics of the 1966-67 season. Despite having only 14 players, they won the Scottish top flight, two domestic cups and the Champions Cup.
I know some of you, especially young people, scoff at the perception that football is much better now than it was then. Of course, we only have to look at how many Premier League points Liverpool and Manchester City have scored in the last two or three years, and the huge gap between them and their opponents.
I admit that this is true, but I also think that as the level of physical confrontation in the game decreases, the game becomes less aggressive, the physical contact decreases, every record in Europe as a whole is broken, and this is definitely not a coincidence.
We also have to admit the fact that those teams before played on bad pitches and there was no economic "doping" there is now.
Just look at the way Liverpool poached Van Dijk and Mane from Southampton and you'll see. When I was playing, Letisier had been playing for Southampton all his career and if it were now, in a few years he would be poached by the top teams and it's hard to say whether he'll be in the main squad or stay on the bench.
Tottenham, Arsenal and Daglish's Liverpool, the size of the squad is smaller than the current Team, But they have all reached their peak.
As for this season, I am optimistic that Manchester City will win the Premier League and Champions League doubles, and Liverpool will win two domestic cups. That's not to say I'd be surprised if Liverpool hadn't won more titles, though.
I know they'll continue to have a great performance in the second leg against Villarreal, as they've been almost entirely muscle and brain memory in recent weeks.
However, I don't think Villarreal will be without a chance. They just need to score goals as soon as possible and once they do that, then the opportunity comes. However, the mentality of this Liverpool team is that even if they are 0-2 behind in the first five minutes, they will eventually win 4-2. I think insist that on 28 May we will see Liverpool and Manchester City in the final.
