Thirty-five years as a day, Wudi book sellers scattered the smell of books in the streets and alleys

Reporter Chen Jingying

On May 4th, at the big market of Wudi Ancient City, I saw the person who was reading in the lively market. He, not only reading but also selling books, at the book stall, as long as no one disturbs, he can read from morning to afternoon. It seemed that the noise of the bazaar had nothing to do with him, and he had been reading so quietly and attentively. Looking around, his silence contrasts sharply with the hustle and bustle of the bazaar.

Wang Shuguo was reading

His name is Wang Shuguo, a native of Xinyang Town, Wudi County. Wang Shuguo grew a very close face and spoke softly. The 52-year-old has been selling books since he was 17 and has been selling books for 35 years now.

When he was a child, Wang Shuguo began to go to school from the age of 11 due to physical reasons, and had to drop out of school to go home at the age of 15 because of a recurrence of his illness. After dropping out of school and returning home, he was still full of desire for knowledge and campus, and his introverted personality buried this desire to study deeply in his heart. At home, he locked himself off, did not go out and did not want to communicate with people, and books became a window for him to communicate with the outside world. This window became the outlet of all his emotions, and in the book he became an unrestrained teenager.

One day, Wang Shuguo passed by the entrance of a primary school with several Dragon Ball comic books. Looking at the elementary school students bouncing around inside, listening to the sound of Lang reading aloud inside, he was stunned and stood stupidly until the students finished school.

"Do you sell this book?" "How much?" The student's inquiry made Wang Shuguo return to God.'s child. After he said a price, the book in his hand was snapped up in an instant.

Taking the money from selling books in his hand and returning home, Wang Shuguo came up with the idea of selling books, which was also supported by his mother. With the 50 yuan start-up capital given by his mother, Wang Shuguo's excited heart could not be calmed for a long time. Early the next morning, he bought comic books, essays, elementary school exam papers, and exercise books, and began selling books at the entrance of the elementary school, when he was 17 years old.

Old books

Later, Wang Shuguo rode his tricycle, full of books, and passed on the fragrance of books in the streets and alleys of Wudi.

"Slowly, more people sold books, and I began to collect ancient books, many out-of-print, one-by-one, and many books from the Republic of China period." Wang Shuguo said, "Books freed me from self-isolation, reintegrated me into this society, and opened the door to my new world." I love these books of historical significance, and many of them can explore the ancient sources and let me understand the past and the present. ”

Wang Shuguo introduced books to customers

After sending off the customers, Wang Shuguo picked up a book and read it, still with that indisputable look. He said he wanted to make up for what he hadn't learned in school and make up for his childhood regrets.

Tomorrow, I don't know which street or intersection he is on, but he must be somewhere, holding a book, reading eagerly.
