This time we test-drove the Global Version of the Great Wall Gun Again, but unlike the gasoline model we tested before, this time it is a diesel version, which is a good hand at eating coarse grains and doing heavy work. Now that oil prices are high, diesel is three or four cents cheaper than No. 92 gasoline, and fuel consumption is also lower, which is really important for the budget-conscious Chinese working people.
The 2.0T diesel engine has a maximum power of 120 kW and a maximum torque of 400 N·m. Don't think that the power of 120kW is small, in fact, the gasoline version is only 140kW, and the diesel version of this "heavy work" does not need to run too fast. More critically, 1500 to 2500 rpm can output 400N·m peak torque, which can be said to be a full load start.
The global version of the Great Wall Gun still uses ZF's 8AT gearbox, with an electronic gear lever, because the positioning of this version is still a "passenger pickup", and if you choose the commercial version, there is also a manual transmission model choice.
The feeling of this set of powertrains is that the low-speed start is strong, on the steep slope winding road of Xishuangbanna, the basic D2 gear can be easily started, most of the slow follow-up car climbing only need D3 gear, as long as the speed is maintained at about 2000 rpm can feel the full torque of the diesel engine.
However, the high torque output also brings some driving unaccustomedness, such as may have obvious "channeling" when the gear is downshipped, or the moment the vehicle moves, and the car rushes out. For example, the same may be D3, D4 gear with the car when climbing, but if you want to overtake at this time, you need to leave half a second to a second, the gearbox will be reduced to D2 gear, then the torque output can be fully exploded. However, if you think about it, the driving needs of pickup trucks are not the same as those of passenger cars, and they do not need to suddenly overtake on mountain roads, or there is a greater demand for load climbing.
In addition, this 8AT gearbox also makes a very obvious "engine braking" working condition. When going downhill, basically the Great Wall Gun will drive in D3 gear, and releasing the throttle will not upshift, so there is a very obvious anti-drag feeling, and the pulling effect of the engine can naturally reduce the speed. This is obviously completely different from the daily passenger car driving perception, and the purpose is naturally to use the engine brake to reduce the load on the brakes and improve safety when filling up heavy objects.
The global version of the Great Wall Gun passenger is also different from the commercial version on the chassis, using multi-link integral bridge rear suspension, while the commercial version pays more attention to the loading of leaf springs. Therefore, the comfort of the passenger version of the Great Wall Gun in high-speed road conditions is much better, at least similar to that of the girder hard-riddle off-road vehicle, and the entire rear suspension of the Passenger Version of the Great Wall Gun is obviously softer. Even the long suspension of the rear when driving on bumpy roads is better able to defuse the impact, at least the people driving it will not be so uncomfortable.
In terms of driving configuration, this test drive is the top model of the global version of the Great Wall Gun, so it has a rear axle electronic differential lock and can have a low-speed four-wheel drive mode. In this way, the high ground clearance, diesel engine with low-speed four-wheel drive ability to get out of trouble is quite handy, but the ordinary version is still using both road tires.
At the same time, the Great Wall Cannon specially launched a co-created "Tea King Edition" for the tea farmers in Xishuangbanna, the price and configuration are lower than the top premium version, but it is also equipped with a rear axle differential lock, and the tire is replaced by an AT off-road tire. The reason is that the tea farmers here need to drive to The Tea Mountain, and there is a demand for stronger four-wheel drive performance, so the rear axle differential lock with the low speed and high torque of the diesel, plus a set of off-road tires, is flat on the mountain.
In addition, the steering of the Great Wall Gun has three gears of adjustment, basically the steering return force is relatively large, and the steering feel is more electronic. Fortunately, the sense of stability at high speed is very good, even heavier, and it will not be said that the steering wheel will be biased slightly, which should also be a kind of debugging that takes into account the needs of pickup trucks. Specifically, in the "easy" gear, the feel is relatively light and relatively blurry, suitable for non-paved roads, but basically in the comfort mode is the most commonly used, but also very worry-free.

However, the global version of the Great Wall Gun tested has a cargo lid, hydraulic struts, and a hidden storage ladder opens at the rear tailgate to facilitate getting on and off.
Unlike other versions, the Tea King version of the roll cage is further lengthened, which allows for better fixation of goods. At the same time, the tea king version does not reduce the ladder of the rear tailgate, and also replaces the 18-inch tire with an AT off-road tire, which can be more suitable for the special environment of the tea mountain.
Entering the car, the interior of the Great Wall Gun passenger pickup truck is basically similar to that of a normal SUV. A large number of soft materials, leather seats, and 9-inch large screens are used in the car, which basically completely subverts the previous impression that "pickup trucks are all kinds of cheap and hard tool cars".
