At 01:56 on May 10, 2022, the Tianzhou-4 cargo spacecraft was successfully launched by the Long March 7 Yao-5 carrier rocket at the Wenchang Launch Site in Hainan. After about 6.5 hours, Tianzhou-4 successfully completed the backward docking with the core module of the space station. This is the first launch of the space station construction mission in 2022, officially opening the curtain on the full construction of the Chinese space station.
Wenchang Cosmodrome is the only coastal launch site on the mainland, which is subordinate to the Xichang Satellite Launch Center. Since 2017, the Tianzhou series of cargo spacecraft have flown from here to space.
The Long March 7 is a new generation of medium-sized carrier rockets on the mainland. This is the first time that the Long March 7 has been tested and launched within a month.
In this mission, Tianzhou-4 loaded more than 200 pieces (sets) of astronaut systems, space station systems, space application fields, and cargo spacecraft systems, including cargo package cargo and direct installation cargo, carrying about 750kg of supplemental propellant, and the total weight of uplink materials was about 6000kg, which will provide material support for Shenzhou XIV crew 3 people to stay on orbit for 6 months, space station assembly and construction, material science, microgravity, aerospace medical experiments and other space application fields. In order to ensure the safe delivery of goods to the "Space Home", Tianzhou-4 adopts a variety of cargo loading methods such as cargo bags, brackets, and storage boxes, and the types and quantities of goods can be dynamically configured according to the needs of the space station; at the same time, it also has the ability to undertake space station operation support tasks such as space station attitude orbit control, grid-connected power supply, space station telemetry, data transmission support, and space science experiment support capabilities.
