Before the Ark of the Covenant disappeared, it is clearly documented that it was finally placed in Solomon's Temple in Jerusalem. Legend has it that King Solomon, after succeeding to david's throne, mobilized tens of thousands of men to build the temple on the Temple Mount.

Based on the background of this story, the plot of the first version of the whereabouts of the Ark of the Covenant seems to be the most obvious, it was snatched and dismantled by the Babylonians, and its precious metal was melted by the Babylonians for other purposes.
The rationale for this version is that in the Bible-Old Testament-Ezra, there is a record of gold and silver vessels that Nebuchadnezzar had plundered from Jerusalem, and there was no mention of the Ark of the Covenant.
As for why the Ark of the Covenant was destroyed, I see no further explanation.
Personal speculation is that if the Ark of the Covenant was indeed destroyed by the Babylonians, it was probably Nebuchadnezzar who was carrying out the will of the god Maduk, whom he worshipped.

However, this version is basically not recognized by mainstream Western academic circles.
Some believe that before the fall of Jerusalem, the Ark of the Covenant was no longer in the temple, but was transferred to Ethiopia.
This version of the claim stems from a moving love story between King Solomon and Queen Sheba.

According to this legend, King Solomon fell in love with the visiting Queen of Sheba at first sight, and they later had a son named Abner Hakim (meaning "son of the wise"), whom Solomon loved and wanted to keep by his side.
But Hakim wanted to return to his mother. So Solomon painted him with the "holy oil" of succession to the throne, let him return to Ethiopia, and established a law that only Hakim's descendants could rule Ethiopia.
When Hakim was gone, the priest who had sent his entourage secretly took the Ark of the Covenant with him.
But there are many bugs in this version, such as whether the Queen of Sheba is from Ethiopia or Arabia, and there is currently debate. Even whether the Queen of Sheba exists in history has been questioned.

Now, let's take a look at other versions that are more interesting.
In fact, more than one archaeologist or treasure hunter has expressed the view that the Ark of the Covenant is still hidden in Israel, most likely deep beneath the temple.
The reason for this version is that more than 150 years ago, an Englishman named Charles Warren completed a sensational archaeological excavation expedition in Jerusalem.

Warren is a very talented and adventurous guy. Initially, he was only an engineer in the Royal Corps of Engineers, but because of his excellent completion of the gibraltar topographic map, he was appreciated by the powerful class of the time, so he joined a special organization: freemasonry.

The archaeological discoveries of Warren's team shocked the entire Western world at the time. Countless Victorian magnates traveled thousands of miles to Jerusalem to see for themselves the ancient city described in the Bible.
Time came to the present, after many on-site investigations, experts found that there are many tunnels and secret chambers in this underground city pool that are still sealed.

These geomorphological features are more in line with the biblical description of Mount Sinai. Based on this, Phillips believes that this may be Mount Sinai where Moses met God.
If Jebel al-Madhbah is indeed the biblical mountain of God, then the prophet Jeremiah may have hidden the Ark of the Covenant in a cave in the area.

After the Third Crusade at the end of the 12th century, some Templars returned from the Holy Land and built a chapel in the mid-British region to store certain holy relics.

Sadly, in 1949, the church was preemptively demolished due to road widening, but no surprising discoveries were made.
Phillips believes that even if the construction crews found the ark of the covenant, they would have remained silent.
