After being named by the Chinese side, the Australian foreign minister "avoided commenting" on the PLA's Taiwan Strait exercise

author:Observer.com

At a time when Pelosi's channeling of Taiwan led to tension in the Taiwan Strait, Australian Foreign Minister Huang Yingxian issued two statements in a row to make irresponsible remarks to the Continental Army, which were "named" and criticized by our embassy in Australia. On August 8, local time, Huang Yingxian once again talked about the Taiwan issue. This time, she avoided commenting on the Chinese military exercises, only calling on all parties to remain "restrained and calm."

Asked whether the Australian side had engaged in or would engage in dialogue with the Taiwan authorities, Huang Yingxian reiterated Australia's adherence to the "one-China" policy, adding, "I think our public statement has been very clear."

According to a press release issued by the Australian Foreign Ministry, Huang Yingxian held a meeting with the Latvian foreign minister on the 8th, followed by a joint press conference.

A reporter at the scene asked, "China criticizes Australia as a puppet of the United States, how can we develop our foreign policy independently of Washington?" In this regard, Huang Yingxian only said that the current government and Australia have always been guided by national interests.

Asked about the situation in the Taiwan Strait, Huang Yingxian replied that the Australian side will continue to urge all parties to "exercise restraint and ease the situation", and the most critical thing at present is to "cool down the tension and remain calm". "The entire region is paying attention to the current situation and calling for the restoration of stability."

On August 4, Pelosi, speaker of the US House of Representatives, recently visited Taiwan in spite of China's strong opposition and solemn representations. In response, the People's Liberation Army announced a live-fire exercise, which was described by taiwan media as "like a locked platform."

The next day (5th), Huang Yingxian issued a statement "deeply concerned" about our military's exercises, claiming that these exercises were "asymmetrical and unstable." On the same day, the foreign ministers of the United States, Japan, and Australia issued a joint statement expressing "concern and condemnation" for our military's exercises, and even threatening to "urge The Chinese side to immediately stop military exercises."

On August 6, the spokesperson of our Embassy in Australia expressed "strong protest and severe condemnation" of the above statement, and pointed out that China is a victim of US political provocations, and the Australian side not only did not express sympathy and support for the victims, but instead joined hands with the perpetrators to condemn the victims. The one-China principle is a solemn commitment of successive Australian governments. The Australian side should strictly abide by it, fully honor it, and should not make any distortions and discounts in actual actions.

On 5 August, the Australian Foreign Minister issued two statements in a row to interfere in the mainland's Taiwan-related issues

At a press conference on the 8th, a reporter mentioned our military exercise and our embassy in Macao "naming" Huang Yingxian, and asked her what her views were on this.

"Australia is not the only country that is worried about an escalation, the whole region is worried about an escalation, about the risk of conflict," Wong replied. It is worth mentioning that the British "Daily Mail" and "Australian" both said that unlike the previous two statements, Huang Yingxian avoided criticism of the Chinese military exercise this time.

She also denied that she had communicated with Wu Zhaoxie, head of the foreign affairs department of the Taiwan authorities.

When asked whether the Australian side plans to engage in "ministerial" dialogue with the Taiwan authorities, Huang Yingxian reiterated: "We will continue to act in a way that is in line with our long-term one-China policy, and I think our public statement has been very clear." ”

On 8 August, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Wang Wenbin responded to the US-Japan-Australia joint statement.

Wang Wenbin said: If people do not have faith, they will not stand, and if the country has no faith, it will decline. We advise individual countries to read history well, scrupulously abide by the solemn promises made in black and white that year, and profoundly understand the danger and harm of treachery and the aim of the "Taiwan independence" forces. Attempts to challenge the one-China principle and the international law and order will inevitably be opposed by the international community and will not succeed.

At a regular news conference on 8 July, some media asked: After the trilateral strategic dialogue between Australia and the foreign ministers of the United States and Japan, they issued a so-called joint statement on the situation in the Taiwan Strait and the Taiwan issue. How does China view Australia's moves in the current atmosphere of China-Australia relations?

In this regard, Wang Wenbin said that the Australian side disregards the facts and groundlessly accuses China of legitimate, reasonable and lawful measures to safeguard sovereignty and territorial integrity, which run counter to the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, grossly interfere in China's internal affairs, and undermine regional peace and stability. China firmly opposes this.

Wang Wenbin said: In recent years, Sino-Australian relations have encountered serious difficulties due to the Reasons of the Australian side, and the merits and demerits of these are very clear. China's position on the development of China-Australia relations has always been clear. The healthy and stable development of China-Australia relations conforms to the fundamental interests and common aspirations of the two peoples. We urge the Australian side to clearly understand the situation, distinguish between right and wrong, respect China's core interests and major concerns, abide by the one-China principle, abide by the basic norms governing international relations, stop interfering in China's internal affairs, stop the erroneous words and deeds that undermine regional peace and stability, do not echo or cooperate with the erroneous strategy of individual countries to "use Taiwan to control China", and do not create new obstacles to the development of China-Australia relations.
