The Central European pinus is an important pest in North American forestry production and is distributed in the Rocky Mountains on the west coast of North America and the area west of it. Most of the hosts are pine plants, but also endanger other coniferous plants such as fir. Adults lay eggs in the trunk, and when they begin to infect, resin tubes are visible on the trunk, red moth powder is visible in the bark cracks and on the ground near the roots, and then the leaves turn from normal green to light greenish yellow, and finally to reddish brown, causing the tree to die.
