Captured milky ear-shaped snail Photographed by Chen Shuyan
Maoming, September 11 (Zhongxin Network) -- On the 11th, a reporter learned from the Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Department of Maoming, Guangdong Province, that a milky ear-shaped snail (Otalalactea) was recently intercepted at the local port, which was verified to be the first time that a Chinese port was intercepted.
According to reports, this is a mollusk intercepted by Maoming entry-exit inspection and quarantine personnel when they recently carried out on-site quarantine inspection of a batch of blue wet cow skins from Spain. It was identified as a milky ear snail (Otalalactea) and confirmed by the Chinese Academy of Inspection and Quarantine Sciences, which was the first interception at a Chinese port.
The milky ear snail is an air-breathing land snail that is native to Europe and northern Africa, feeding on fruits and plants and is a pest of many horticultural plants. This invasive species may have negative impacts on agriculture, natural ecosystems, human health or commerce.
It is understood that in order to prevent the introduction and spread of harmful organisms and maintain the safety of China's national biological and agricultural and forestry production, the Maoming Inspection and Quarantine Bureau has implemented strict pest treatment for the batch of goods intercepted with milky ear snails in accordance with the law.
