What could be more exciting than pushing civilization forward?
Whether it is the video medium or art itself, the transmission of ideas has led to the emergence of multiple civilizations, and we humans are using wisdom to create wisdom, using civilization to guard civilization, and using identity to consolidate identity, but sometimes this civilization or the evolution of the era of ideas or identities may not be so satisfactory, and when civilization develops to a certain period - that is, the bottleneck period we usually refer to, our civilization will sometimes eat back on ourselves.
The age of the wise in history, the dark ages of the Middle Ages, the slave years of the Negroes, the colonial era of Great Britain, what do we do when civilization becomes a stumbling block in our way forward?
Is it to admit the mistakes and/or redundancies of civilization, to modify it or even to rebuild it, or to make mistakes again and again and let the negative effects of culture gradually spread?
Gender-based may answer that question.
The film "Gender-Oriented" is a story about the era of sexism, the heroine Ruth Bud Ginsberg's history of feminism in the 1950s and 1970s, which is a far-reaching film, so when watching this film, I often compare the feminist struggle in the film with the black civil rights movement that also happened in the United States. History is always strikingly similar, but we always make the same mistakes.
In fact, it is not that we are unaware of such problems, but that the continuation of the problem is far greater than the benefits of solving them.
This has always been a society full of oppression, and the emergence of the civil rights movement has gradually changed the world.

Civil rights movement

Without going into too long a history of black slavery, it's easy to attribute the first battle of the black civil rights movement to the boycott of buses in Montgomery, because buses acquiesced to racial segregation in car seats, stipulated that blacks must give up seats to whites, blacks had no right to sit in the front seat, and so on.
Rosa, a black woman arrested for violating regulations. Parks has many friends and strong credibility in the local area, which is why this boycott campaign can last so long, in order to rescue Rosa. Parks, people began to launch a boycott of buses in various ways, the most famous of which was Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., a black priest who later led the civil rights movement.
Martin Luther King, Jr. was also a devout believer with many followers, and Rosa. Like Parks, when Martin Luther King Jr. made his point, the movement's reach expanded further, and if it was just a simple incident of racial discrimination, it might not have had such a big impact.
The key to the success of this campaign is that both Rosa. Parks and Martin Luther King, Jr., are leaders in life, the former has a good reputation and high credibility in the neighborhood, the latter is a doctor, and a good priest, a devout believer, when people have trust in these people, they will also give an absolute or even extreme support for what these leaders do.
The beginning of civilization lies in the fact that the minority influences the majority, which is why I have said before that history is the same as the miracle created by the minority, and the emergence and termination of the civil rights movement is always related to man and the civilization he has created.
This is also the theme of "Gender-oriented".
Remember how long the civil rights movement developed?
If you count the montgomery boycott of the bus movement (1955), it has only been a little more than half a century, but we see that the change is enormous, and the culture of self-sufficiency can bring about all-round decay, while on the other hand, the culture of openness and freedom will bring rapid development, whether it is in the civil rights movement, cultural restoration, and technological development.
So the feminist movement that occurred in the seventies, once successful, the changes must be far-reaching, which is why the protagonist has been fighting for this right all his life, even the feminist movement, like the civil rights movement, is a correction of the discriminatory regulations in the current laws of the United States, it represents an aspect of individual self-reflection, a kind of reproduction from the ancient Greek era to the era of the wise, from the understanding of the world to the transition stage of self-understanding, at the beginning of this change, No one is aware of the change that occurs, and after it happens, no one abandons it.
We are always making excuses for our actions to affirm the correctness of our thinking in the present moment, which is why when Ruth Bud Ginsburg was frustrated at Harvard Law School, people took it for granted that they thought they were an original sin of traditional civilization.

That's how the rules should be

At the beginning of the film, Ruth finds a big problem as soon as she enters the law school, and there are only a few women in the entire law school lecture hall, which makes her feel very uncomfortable.
Not only that, she is also a married woman, taking care of the children and tidying up the family, but fortunately, her husband loves her deeply and supports her to complete her studies and complete her dreams.
As the president of the law school, he is also very unhappy about this group of "special admissions", as if in his eyes, women should not go to college, but should do the corresponding things at the corresponding age, so there are only nine female students in this class.
And he was a particularly stubborn person, stubborn to a certain extent about himself, and when a girl named Emily stood up and introduced herself to law school because she did not want to be a teacher or nurse or get married, he impatiently interrupted her introduction.
At this point Ruth understood the answer he wanted, so she took the opportunity to provide such a plausible answer to the satisfaction of the headmaster himself, otherwise she would be discriminated against by the headmaster's own language, and it was here that the civilized attitude towards the polarization between women and men began to show the difference.
In the second act, in class, when the student answers a question, the lecturer wants another classmate to complete the answer for him, and only Ruth raises his hand, and the lecturer seems to turn a blind eye.
First, if the woman's answer is correct, it is easy to hurt the self-esteem of men, in that era of sexism, the pattern outside the male and female leads has been roughly settled, even the occupation, the behavior and etiquette, etc., are strictly distinguished, which further limits the possibility of women's free development, if men engage in women's work, they will be ridiculed or even insulted, and the same, women engaged in men's occupations, most will attract frivolous actions and physical violations.
Therefore, both the law and society itself are further restricting women's right to freedom of expression.
So how did Ruth rise?
What influenced her to fight for the feminist movement?
I think it can be roughly divided into three stages.
The first stage was when her husband was diagnosed with testicular cancer because of an accidental fainting.
This is the most desperate experience of Ruth when she was young, before her husband was discharged, not only to take care of the young children, but also to make up lessons for her husband, which is equivalent to taking two people's classes by herself, so during this time, we will see Ruth often running on the road with two sets of books, time is oppressed, but it also makes Ruth herself stronger and more independent.
Near graduation, the law school president emphasized not how good Ruth was, but how fortunate she was to be at Harvard, as if as a woman, the university's lecture hall had been granted to her, which was another sexism that Ruth had encountered after the beginning of the school, and this conversation completely cut off Ruth's emotional connection with the law school.
The second stage is the period of rebellion.
Despite interviewing with a number of companies, despite her excellent academic qualifications and experience, Ruth was also turned away for only one reason, because she was a woman, and the profession of lawyer sounded more like a profession for men, and women's "emotional" and "emotional" would make a mess of rational work.
Even sometimes, the jealousy of the lawyer's wife can be a difficult threshold to cross on the job search.
Job search companies give up or prevaricate Ruth for various reasons, making Ruth desperate, as if it were the racial discrimination encountered by pianist Don in "Green Book", no matter what position in society people have to show obedience in front of cultural rules, civilization is the most rational thing people create, and unfortunately, it can also be the oldest and most rigid institutional rules in the world.
It is precisely because she can't stand the gender discrimination that exists in society, Ruth angrily took up the weapon in her hands and used the law to seek equality. It is at this moment that the story begins, entering the first turning point, which we can call a change of thought, or an erection in a difficult situation.
But finally, Ruth began to act.
But does such an action really work?
In fact, Ruth herself did not understand how she should fight this war without smoke.
Moreover, at home, she also has to communicate with her daughter who has skipped school at all times, with the intention of guiding her to the right track of life.
However, her guidance is sometimes too tough and extreme, because Ruth believes that her thinking is correct, so many times, she can not listen to the opinions of others, and in the quarrel with her husband Marty, it can also be seen that Ruth's cognition of herself is also committing the old mistake of the law school principal.
When old ideas become chains that solidify the minds of individual human beings, do we still have a chance to escape?
Have you ever thought that one day, your mind will be replaced by a new one?
Although Ruth is aware of the error of the discrimination bills, she does not know how to amend these bills to make them better, she is not willing to wait any longer, very much hope that change can happen immediately, but is this possible, even if it is a civil rights movement, the impact is not immediate, although in our view for a civil rights movement, half a century is not very long, but if there is no change in thinking, then change itself cannot exist.
Ultimately it was her daughter who influenced her choices.
She, on the other hand, was aware of the differences in thinking between the law school president, herself and her daughter for three generations, and the times were changing, and people's attitudes toward civilization were also changing.
And all of this makes it very likely that the changes to the Discrimination Act will be approved, and Ruth also sees hope in this one.
Hope, on the other hand, is the starting point for passing on the torch of civilization.

Gender-based

The third stage of the film is the lawsuit.
The law school principal wants to bribe Ruth with money and force her to give up the next court game, but Ruth refuses.
She is free to follow a lawsuit on occupational sexism and is ready to make her position clear, and this bribery clip is a small episode of this lawsuit, just like the famous PwC discrimination case in history, whether it goes back to any discrimination-based case in the last century, from the opening trial to the decision, it is either extremely quick, routine, or full of hardships and dismal results.
A cross-civilization lawsuit like this is itself an attack on the current bill, and can even be seen as a floutation of the law, so it is understandable why such a lawsuit is not only long, but also slow to progress.
In court, judges fear that the new concept will lead to the collapse of the old legal system.
Ruth rejects this view, stressing that what she wants is a new precedent, a new regulation independent of the original law itself, a complement to the civilization of the past.
This idea directly avoids people's conservative attitude towards the old civilization, and creates new rules on the basis of people's familiarity, without destroying the original rules, which is another way to minimize the conflict between the old and new civilizations.
We mentioned earlier that the boycott in Montgomery originated from the credibility of leaders, and building this credibility is part of people's self-worth, so don't touch the bottom line of the majority's rights until you have to.
The development of each civilization is a supplement to the old civilization, and the reform of civilization in addition to this is mostly carried out through war or slavery, and when we cannot understand the benefits brought to us by the new civilization, we will naturally be more inclined to support the old civilization, even if you are a slave, you can also enjoy the corresponding rights and interests of the slave class in the original old society.
But what the new system under the new civilization will bring, few people know.
Although the film "Gender-Oriented" shows several key periods and key decisions of Ruth, it does not show her own influence, but in a more straightforward way, the historical stories that exist between Ruth and the family, as well as society, are shown one by one, even if it is the final climax, the completion is bottomless.
This is one of the more disappointing places I have been.
But this is still a far-reaching film, because the achievements of the characters themselves are remarkable, we will eventually be impressed by this strict female lawyer, and we are glad that as the times have evolved, new ideas have gradually replaced old ideas, and many past bad habits and legal deficiencies have gradually been supplemented.
We are still moving towards the good.
Even though civilization sometimes leads us astray, we always need the guidance of civilization to move toward progress.
From ancient times to the present, it has always been so...
