Recently, another new book reveals former U.S. President Donald Trump's complaints about his predecessors as "idiots" at most national security conferences and his incessant bragging about things he hasn't done.
It's a new book by Fiona Hill, a top Russian expert in the former Trump administration, "There's Nothing For You Here: Finding Opportunities in the 21st Century."
Between 2006 and 2009, Hill worked as an intelligence analyst under george w.w. Bush and Barack Oba President Ma. In 2017, she was appointed deputy adjutant to the president and senior director of "European and Russian affairs" at the National Security Council under Trump.
"I soon had the opportunity to observe firsthand that Trump likes to take any opportunity and ask for credit over and over again. He said he had done 'amazing things' for people, 'things no one had ever done' — something that interested him more than participating in the hard work required to really achieve," she wrote in her memoirs.
Hill went on to say that most of the meetings she attended while working for the Trump administration "turned into criticism of his predecessors: Obama, George W. Bush, Clinton and, occasionally, Bush Sr. Say they didn't do anything, or just 'idiots,' and then Trump sings the praises of himself where they failed."
Indeed, Trump has often publicly criticized Obama, Bush, and Clinton, and has used what previous administrations have done to give credit to himself.
Hill gives an example: Trump claimed in August 2019 that the U.S. steel industry died before he took office, and that it was he who revived the steel industry. "It is not the case," Hill wrote, "and he further asserts that it is not true that there were no new steel mills in the United States in the thirty years before he took office." He then claimed that the new steel mill plan in the United States was a direct result of his intervention, even though the expansion program had been underway for many years. ”
Trump has also repeatedly credited the passage of the Veterans' Choice Act. "We passed the Veterans' Choice and the Veterans Accountability System so that our veterans can have the care they deserve. They've been working hard to get these approved for the previous 45 years. Trump said in May 2019. In fact, the bill was first passed in 2014, when president was Obama.
He also often said half-truths about the economy and unemployment. In September 2020, Trump said in a presidential debate with then-Democratic candidate Joe Biden: "We built the greatest economy in history. In fact, according to Reuters, during Obama's second term, there will be about 2.5 million jobs added each year, which is higher than the 2.1 million jobs added a year in Trump's first three years in office.
Trump's spokesman did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
