Recently, some citizens found in Tongpu Road, Hangzhou's West Lake District, that municipal workers were feeding insects to the Fatong trees on both sides.
On April 15, the reporter happened to be at the scene to see Master Wu, a municipal worker, supplying insects to the tree. He took a small tweezer and picked up a bug the size of a grain of rice and put it in the crevice of the bark of the tung tree, and the little bugs were motionless at first, as if they were "pretending to be dead", and after a short while, they crawled around very lively.
"They are called flower velvet nails, feed on the celestial cow, are the nemesis of the celestial cow, and I put them on the tree to 'cure the disease' of the tree, not to feed the tree." Master Wu smiled and explained the reporter's doubts.
It is understood that the Tianniu is known as the "saw tree lang", is a variety of rose family plants "number one killer", the larvae of the Tianniu live in the trunk, can be the trunk of the hollow, so that the tree is easy to break, especially in the rainy season, the hollow trunk is more likely to rot, dumped, bringing potential danger to pedestrians.
So, how does this insect the size of a grain of rice destroy the Celestial Bull? Master Wu told reporters that after the flower velvet parasite is on the tree, it will quickly find the Tianniu and enter the worm path of the Tianniu, when the temperature reaches 23 degrees Celsius, the eggs of the velvet parasitic nail will hatch into adults within two or three days, and the adults will quickly find the Tianniu larvae to destroy it.
According to the staff of the Greening and Garden Development Section of the Xihu District Urban Management Bureau, Every Year in March and April is the spawning period of the Tianniu, and it is also the key period for eliminating the tree pest Tianniu, at present, the workers have placed more than 100 tung trees on both sides of the Tongpu Road, with an average of 10 to 20 trees, and more trees that are seriously damaged will be put in moderation.
The reporter learned that in fact, this is not the first time that Hangzhou has placed flower velvet nails on street trees to govern the Tianniu. Last year, the West Lake District took the lead in placing velvet nails on 75 Fatong trees on the Tianmushan Road to Wener West section of Yile Road and 65 willow trees on the section from Hewensan West Road to Wener West road in Zijingang. The results showed that the flower velvet nails could effectively reduce the harm of 60% of the cattle to the trees. In April this year, the scope of the test was further expanded, and 225 tung trees in the Wener Road to Wenyi section of Moganshan Road were also placed with velvet nails.
According to the staff, compared with the traditional prevention and control methods, the release of flower wool nails is more environmentally friendly and more efficient. In the past, the treatment of Tianniu was mainly based on spraying, especially in May and June, when the adult cattle came out of the hole peak, there were more than 20 Tianniu on a serious tree, and workers needed to use a high-pressure spray gun to spray drugs, sometimes the tree was too high, and the high places could not be sprayed, and it may also bring inconvenience to pedestrians.
