Calamus (Irisensatavar.hortensis Makino et Nemoto): is a variety of cicada flower. Perennial aquatic flowers. The rhizome is short and thick, with many bearded roots and fibrous dead leaf tips, the leaf base is raw, linear, the midrib of the leaf is convex, and the veins on both sides are relatively flat. The flowers are erect and accompanied by 1-3 vestigial leaves. The flowers are up to 15 cm in diameter. The outer three petals are oval to inverted ovate, with yellow spots and purple streaks in the middle, and the vertical petals narrowly inverted-lanceolate. The peduncle is three-branched, petal-shaped, and bilobed at the apex. The capsules are oblong, ridged and brownish-black seed coat. The flowering period is from June to July, and the fruit period is from August to September. It is the most cultivated in Japan, and more than 100 varieties have been bred.
