According to foreign media InsideEVs, BMW officially released its first compact electric crossover - iX2.
This marks the fact that in addition to the petrol and diesel versions of the X2, an all-electric version is now available through the iX2 lineup.
As a high-end compact crossover, the iX2 combines excellent drive system, advanced exterior design and efficient vehicle management system to provide a new choice for the market.
1. New design style Equipped with iDrive9
iX2 front grille
BMW positions the iX2 as a high-end compact sports coupe (SAC), and like the fuel version of the X2, it can be optionally equipped with a luminous kidney-shaped grille similar to the "X6 Youth Edition", while LED headlights are standard.
The iX2 has a length, width and height of 179.2/72.6/61.4 inches (about 4554/1845/1560 mm) and weighs 4453 pounds (about 2020 kg).
Compared to the fuel version, the rear of the iX2 has been redesigned. The previous model was more like a hatchback than a coupe-like crossover. Now, the roof line flows into the rear, creating the sporty look typical of BMW's so-called sporty coupe.
iX2 interior
Inside, the iX2 comes standard with dual-zone automatic air conditioning, combined with a heat pump to improve efficiency in cold weather. In terms of driving experience, the iX2 also comes standard with Bluetooth, cloud-based GPS navigation and a six-speaker audio system, while the BMW iDrive9 is an option with a dual-screen combination with 10.25-inch and 10.7-inch displays.
iX2 trunk space
In terms of trunk space, the X2's luggage compartment capacity ranges from the standard 525 liters to 1400 liters with the rear seat reclined.
2. Dual-motor all-wheel drive The maximum endurance is 449 kilometers
Similar to last year's iX1, the all-new coupe iX2 was only available in one version of the iX2 xDrive30 at launch.
The car is equipped with a dual-motor all-wheel drive system with a rated power of 313 horsepower (about 230 kilowatts) and torque of 364 pounds and feet (about 494 Nm). The iX2 has a 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) score of 5.6s and a top speed of 111 mph (180 km/h).
The vehicle also carries a battery pack with a capacity of 64.8 kWh, which has a range of 259 miles (about 417 kilometers) to 279 miles (about 449 kilometers) on a full charge, and its WLTP range of 272 miles (about 438 kilometers) is slightly higher than that of the iX1.
In terms of charging, the car supports DC fast charging, with a maximum power of 130kW, which can be charged from 10% to 80% in 29 minutes. The AC slow charge is 11kW, and it takes 6.5 hours to charge the battery from zero to 100%.
In addition, the iX2 is an optional 22kW three-phase AC charger, which can fully charge the battery in 3 hours and 45 minutes.
The overall look of the iX2
In terms of energy control, a predictive thermal management system that automatically activates the high-voltage battery when using the built-in navigation system ensures that the battery pack is pre-optimized before each fast charge.
In addition, similar to the recently released i5, the iX2 is equipped with the latest version of the "Maximum Performance Charging" software, which optimizes the battery charging power so that even when the remaining charge (SoC) is below 50%, the battery can enter the maximum charging power at an early stage.
Subsequently, the iX2 will be produced at BMW's plant in Regensburg, Germany, with deliveries scheduled to begin in Europe in March 2024.
A second all-electric version will be available by summer 2024, but as things stand, the iX2 won't be available in the U.S. anytime soon, but its fuel version of the X2 will be sold in some regions.
Conclusion: The release of the iX2 marks a new development for BMW in the field of electric vehicles
As a high-end compact crossover, its dual-motor all-wheel drive system, high-voltage battery, and predictive thermal management system bring excellent performance and charging efficiency to the driver. The launch of the BMW iX2 will bring consumers more choices to meet the needs of various groups of people.
