Rumors of multi-vehicle rear-end collision in Nanjing cross-river tunnel?

Today's Refutation of Rumours (19 December 2023)

Truth: On December 18, heavy snow fell in Nanjing, and a video about "multiple cars in the river tunnel were rear-ended in a row" circulated on the Internet, and reminded netizens to "pay attention to slippery roads on snowy days" and "don't drive if you can", which attracted attention. After checking with the public security department, the accident in the video occurred in the Jiangshan Street Tunnel in Nanjing on April 1, 2021. Up to now, there have been no major traffic accidents in the tunnels in Nanjing.

Netizens are reminded not to arbitrarily forward screenshots, videos, and audio messages that do not have authoritative and formal sources. Do not spread or believe rumors, and work together to create a clear cyberspace. Misunderstandings: Vigilance: Three major misunderstandings about earthquake evacuation and risk avoidance

Myth 1: Flee outdoors immediately in the event of an earthquake

Truth: Earthquakes occur instantaneously, and people are more likely to be injured when they enter or leave buildings; bricks, billboards, and glass walls on roofs are also in danger of collapsing; and people living on high-rise buildings are prone to chaos and unnecessary trouble if they all flee at the same time. If the indoor seismic absorption conditions and building quality are good, indoor seismic absorption should be preferred.

Myth 2: Hide in the wardrobe and other furniture

Truth: Although the large wardrobe is strong, the center of gravity is too high and easy to tilt, and once people get to the cabinet, their vision will be blocked, and their limbs will be restrained, which will not only miss the opportunity to escape, but also not conducive to being rescued.

Myth 3: Lying on the ground or lying down waiting for rescue can save physical strength

Truth: Lying down or lying on your stomach during an earthquake is dangerous, which increases the flat area of the body, and the chance of being hit by objects such as rubble is 5 times greater than when standing, and lying down is not conducive to the flexible movement of the body. The best posture is to protect your head with your hands and lie on your side (to protect your spine). (Source: Ministry of Emergency Management of the People's Republic of China)
