It is incumbent upon us to protect the villagers

On July 25, the weather turned sunny and the water level dropped, but the flood control was still not relaxed. Recalling the scene that happened more than 10 days ago, Dong Guanghai of Lianqun Village, Baoding Street, Sanshan District, Wuhu City, had a lingering feeling and was at the same time relieved, "Only when people are there, their homes will be there." Dong Guanghai said that his father, who was in his 70s, was trapped in his home when a dangerous situation occurred that day, and what was touching was that Ren Shilin and Cai Guoqing, cadres of Lianqun Village, disregarded their own safety to find the old man and turned the danger into a disaster. But when it comes to this matter, the two grassroots cadres who are still guarding the levee are firm in saying, "It is incumbent upon us to protect the villagers!"

As an important barrier for flood control along the Yangtze River shoreline of Baoding Street, Lianqun Village has a 11.5-kilometer levee defense task. Since the beginning of the flood season, the flood prevention and flood control front in the whole village has been long, the task is heavy, and the pressure is great. However, the cadres of the two village committees have been guarding the safety of every villager with the practical action of "being open-minded in times of crisis".

Desperate to save the trapped villagers

On July 12, a polder in Lianqun Village suddenly broke out. When Ren Shilin, secretary of the party committee of Lianqun Village, led the cadres of the "two committees" of the village to rush to the rescue and go door to door to confirm whether the personnel were safe, he found that the father of the villager Dong Guanghai had not returned. "Can't wait, let's go on our own." Watching the water continue to rise, Ren Shilin and Cai Guoqing, a retired soldier who had only been in the village committee for half a year, made a decision. There were no kayaks, no stormtroopers, the two rolled up their trouser legs, each wearing a life jacket and wading into the water again.

Ren Shilin remembered that when he first set out, the water only reached his calves. In the muddy water, there were all kinds of debris floating, and the two of them groped forward at the fastest speed, and Cai Guoqing, who was only 25 years old, fell twice in a row. After about half an hour, the water had risen to the chest, and the two of them and Dong Guanghai's brother, who had come from the other direction, finally found Dong Guanghai's father, who had almost collapsed. "We just prayed all the way for people to be safe, and it was okay." Subsequently, the old man was helped to sit in the plastic basin, Ren Shilin and Cai Guoqing on both sides to help move towards the safe area, and soon encountered the emergency Blue Sky Rescue Team, successfully rescued.

Stick to the front line to build a flood control levee

"Director Gu, come quickly, there are several leaks in the sewage ditch..." On the evening of July 22, when the voice of the inspector on duty came from the phone, Gu Xuexi, the director of the Lianqun Village Committee who was patrolling the embankment elsewhere, giggled in his heart. Too late to eat dinner, he immediately picked up the shovel, rushed to the dangerous situation at the first time, and immediately organized personnel to take measures of pressure infiltration. Then he did not hesitate to jump into the sewage ditch and reach into the water with his bare hands to explore the location of the leakage water, use sand, gravel, etc. to layer the leakage point layer by layer, and then set up a fence with soil to surround the leakage point to form a water basin, and finally the danger was effectively dealt with.

"This seepage point remembers to focus on observing every hour, and the situation is reported immediately." Gu Xuexi dragged his tired body to the shore, and while explaining to the duty officers around him, he planted a small red flag in the leak that had been treated. Relieved, he took the flashlight again and carefully inspected the sewer ditch from beginning to end before returning to the flood control shed with confidence. At this time, it was already more than 9 o'clock in the evening, and Gu Xuexi realized that his stomach was already grumbling with hunger, and the clothes on his body did not know when they were soaked with rain and sweat.

There are many more situations like this to deal with dangerous situations urgently, and Gu Xuexi is often the first to charge forward, and wherever there is danger, there is his figure. Carrying supplies, inspecting embankments and checking risks... Gu Xuexi has always adhered to the frontline of flood prevention and flood control, and practiced the original mission of party members with actions, "The flood does not retreat, I do not retreat!"

Courage to take responsibility regardless of personal gains and losses

There are many, many touching things that stick to the front line of flood prevention and give up small families to take care of everyone.

Zhang Yiyang, deputy secretary of the village party committee and deputy director of the village committee, suffered serious losses at home because of the flood situation, but for several days, he still drove his own van back and forth to carry supplies without complaint, and did not say a word of "abandonment." After receiving the urgent task of rushing to build a flood control shed and ensuring electric lighting, Zhang Yiyang did not rest for more than ten consecutive hours, and led the team to set up tents, set up power lines, and installed lights all the way along the Yangtze River embankment overnight, and finally at 2 o'clock in the morning, 22 flood prevention emergency tents and lighting facilities were rushed to complete, ensuring that the embankment patrol personnel could be stationed in it at the first time. Due to bad weather reasons such as wild storms, it is common for power outages at two or three o'clock in the morning, but no matter what time, Zhang Yiyang will immediately rush to the scene to organize personnel to find problems, carry out emergency repairs, and never complain bitterly.

Peng Kai, a reserve cadre of the village born in 1992, is a veteran, and on the evening of July 11, he happened to have an outpatient operation in the hospital with unbearable pain in kidney stones, but after learning of the dangerous situation on July 12, he refused to hang water and rushed back to the village at the first time to help transfer, patrol the embankment at night, and ensure supplies... Non-stop every day. In fact, these days, Peng Kai's abdomen is often faintly painful, but he has not said anything, and has been found by everyone before he is "exposed". Why fight so hard? In an interview with reporters, Peng Kai said, "Compared with the safety of the villagers, my little illness and small pain is nothing", of course, there is also the sentence, "It is incumbent on the villagers to protect them!"
