In an increasingly complex era, the rapid development of science and technology has brought many conveniences, which have spread to the most remote corners of the world, constituting our daily life and the material basis for our survival. Modernity has spawned some never-before-seen complexities that everyone has benefited from, but it has also spawned a series of by-products that are highly entangled with a wide variety of factors, giving rise to new uncertainties and challenges. Among them, the decline of biodiversity, climate change, environmental pollution, etc., are the global environmental problems we are all facing.
The current state of the relationship between humans and nature (IPBES, 2019)
From the perspective of natural science, it is necessary to study biodiversity, as well as the interaction between species and the changes of ecosystems. From the perspective of the humanities, we need to deeply reflect on the prevalent myths about the relationship between humans and nature and support conservation actions in various ways, and from the perspective of nature conservation practices, the core of ecological environmental protection is to coordinate social interactions and decision-making processes at all levels, and to promote common ground and compromise between different perspectives on the basis of a full understanding of the value aspirations of the people concerned, so as to clarify and safeguard the public interest and well-being of the group。
Common problems bring us together, but different knowledge backgrounds, values and positions can easily cause division, estrangement and incomprehension between industries and disciplines.
In the age of globalization, there is no single perspective to solve problems. In front of the proposition of how to coexist between man and nature, more and more people are interested, and more people agree with the concept of sustainable development. However, practitioners rarely have the opportunity to participate in multi-perspective and interdisciplinary exchanges and dialogues beyond the scope of their profession and field.
Previously, with the support of Huatai Securities, the Shanshui Nature Conservation Center and the Huatai Public Welfare Foundation jointly launched the "Walking Scholarship - A Yangtze River Youth Activist Support Program", and environmental protection youths from different industries came to Liziba in Sichuan for exchanges
Therefore, we have launched the "One Yangtze River" Sustainable Development Talent Workshop (hereinafter referred to as the Seminar), which aims to influence and gather a group of young people with a "sense of economic, social and cultural balance" through a one-year training, and build a cross-border platform for long-term learning, Xi, exchange and dialogue.
With the support of Peking University Yixin Huatai Fund, funded by Huatai Securities, the "One Yangtze River" Sustainable Development Talent Workshop is jointly provided by the School of Life Sciences of Peking University, Huatai Charity Foundation and Shanshui Conservation Center, and is scheduled to officially launch a one-year training in January 2024.
The workshop is aimed at practitioners from enterprises and financial institutions, media, scientific research institutions and the environmental protection and public welfare industry, especially those who are interested, thoughtful and puzzled about sustainable development issues in their practical work, and have the potential to explore and seek knowledge. We will learn together in the form of workshops, through senior expert sharing, field trips, and discussion dialogues, etc., to expand knowledge and skills, and inspire discussion and action to solve practical problems.
The instructors of the workshop cover scholars from different disciplines such as ecology, environment, economy, society, landscape planning, etc., and the training will also provide multi-dimensional learning Xi and experience for the participants through the sharing of industry veterans and front-line field visits. This process emphasizes an awareness of complexity, discerning thinking, a perspective that transcends boundaries, and a group of like-minded people. After four indoor and outdoor trainings a year, we will also guide the participants to put them into practice in the real world and make a greater impact in the industry.
As a public welfare training program officially registered with Peking University, the seminar does not charge any tuition fees, and the trainees are responsible for the travel and accommodation expenses related to the training. After completing all the semester hours, students can obtain a certificate of completion issued by Peking University, and can apply to become alumni of the School of Life Sciences of Peking University after passing the academic assessment.
