Taipei, 15 Sep (Xinhua) -- At present, the epidemic in Taiwan has not stopped, and the threat of mass infection of Delta strains is looking at the tiger, and the public is worried. Under this circumstance, those in power on the island are "running and toiling" for the sake of fighting politics, and they have recently made frequent moves in the intention of bringing out a new wave of wind direction, and the fact is that it is likely to create a new round of storms.
Taiwan media reported that the responsible person of the foreign-related affairs and security affairs department of the Taiwan authorities returned to Taiwan from the United States on the evening of 13 July. As for the purpose of his visit to the United States, a few days ago, foreign media disclosed that it was for the purpose of discussing changing the name of the "Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office" in the United States to the "Taiwan Representative Office." A week ago, the DPP "legislator" proposed that foreign-related departments should set up a working group as soon as possible to grasp the opportunity of "correcting the name" and rename the institutions stationed abroad to "Taiwan."
The political scheme of the so-called "correcting Taiwan's name" is not a secret for a long time, and it is an important part of the "De-Sinicization" of "Taiwan independence" in the international operation, and there is no doubt that it will seriously impact the stability of the situation in the Taiwan Strait. The DPP's latest wave of moves, especially those related to the United States, has continued to arouse criticism from Public Opinion in Taiwan over the past few days, with the main viewpoint being that the DPP is making a big gamble with cross-strait peace, Taiwan security, and the people's well-being as a bargaining chip, and that such a "name change" may only allow Taiwan to "not enjoy its benefits and suffer first."
Playing a word trick, there is also this one: the DPP authorities announced the pictures of the "Double Ten" activity on the 8th, and the word "TAIWAN" appeared in the label. People on the island bitterly criticized that this move is obviously also to "justify Taiwan's name" and declare that "Taiwan independence" means even more strongly. Some Taiwan media commented that the majority of the Taiwan people do not agree with seeking "independence" in such an opportunistic way, and that this kind of "English-language Taiwan independence" that engages in gray area operations abroad and cognitive operations at home will trample on the red line between the two sides of the strait and make it more difficult for the Taiwan Strait to calm down.
In addition to "language homework", there is also "history homework". Recently, the DPP authorities' "Committee for Promoting Transitional Justice" announced a plan to change the "Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall Park" into a "Historical Park for Reflection on Authoritarianism," including the removal of the bronze statue of Chiang Kai-shek. This move was questioned, and some people on the island openly wrote to the authorities to ridicule: Now the office of the leader of the authorities is the most authoritarian location of the Japanese imperialist occupation of Taiwan, and in order to implement the "transitional justice", it should be demolished as soon as possible and converted into a "historical memorial park for the 30 million compatriots who died in the War of Resistance Against Japan (including Taiwan compatriots)."
Although there are likes and dislikes of individuals, the question is whether the public power views history in its entirety. In a comment by the Taiwan media: In the name of "transitional justice" as a one-sided definition, the ideology behind it is to erase historical memory and sever cross-strait ties.
Taiwan is the region with the highest "density" of China's modern and contemporary history, and the facts are like iron, which are vividly remembered, but now the island has a chaotic view of history -- what the DPP authorities call "pluralism." Recently, the "epic drama" "Scalo" invested by the DPP authorities is being broadcast, causing controversy.
The drama is set against the backdrop of the U.S. military's attack on ethnic minority tribes in southern Taiwan after the "Luo Mei Incident" in 1867. Ko Kim So-mei, a "legislator" of Taiwan's ethnic minorities, held that its glorification of US aggression is a DPP view of history fabricated in disregard of historical facts. Taiwanese writer Yang Du kao reported that the prototype of the film character, Li Xiande, once served as the US consul in Xiamen, successively gave his life for the US and Japanese governments, and assisted Japan in attacking Taiwan and slaughtering, known in history as the "Peony Society Incident", but this person was portrayed as a hero in the play.
In response to the questioning, the DPP authorities responded by saying that they "respect different interpretations of history." However, some Taiwan media commented that this "political drama" is that the DPP is using its ruling superiority to construct its own "view of Taiwan history." This practice of intercepting and even fabricating historical facts has long existed, such as the movie "Back to School." From this, we can see how the DPP has hollowed out its historical memory in the fields of education, art, and drama, and then filled in the connotations that conform to its own interests. However, history cannot be erased, and "Scalo" is a move by the DPP to shape the consciousness of "Taiwan independence" and a "cognitive war" waged against the People of Taiwan by using culture to "lead the direction of the wind."
If you turn off the television and don't read newspapers and online news, Taiwanese society will seem calm. But walking on the streets and touching the people, what I feel most deeply is the anxiety brought about by the outbreak of the epidemic.
Liu Shengren, an associate professor at Taiwan's Chinese Culture University, wrote that the virus has mutated, the vaccine is insufficient, and there is a gap in epidemic prevention; the DPP authorities have completely disregarded the importance of epidemic prevention and fighting for the economy, and have once again increased their performances on ideology and cross-strait confrontation, shifting the focus and covering up. However, "fight politics together," will Taiwan take off upwards? Will you be able to get rid of the virus?
Yang Yingchao, an assistant professor at Ming Chuan University in Taiwan, asked that Taiwan's more important interest at present is the vaccine issue, and everything should not be rushed to this. The authorities sent personnel to the United States to talk about vaccine supply, but they put aside the concerns of the Taiwan people.
"Wandering to Freshwater" is a famous song by Li Binghui, a well-known blind singer in Taiwan. He is in his 70s and recently sang at a wet market, posing on a bench, a stereo and a sign with the words "Thank you for the tip", which was photographed by the media. "It was only four or five hundred New Taiwan dollars in the morning." alas! So pathetic. His wife said that due to almost zero income, she could only survive the epidemic by relying on instant noodles, biscuits and other materials sent by well-meaning people.
Under the epidemic, the people were full of bitterness. Natural disasters are avoided, but man-made disasters are often avoided. Observing the current Taiwan, witnessing the political "fighting very much" and the people's livelihood "killing a lot", how embarrassing!
