15 years ahead of the United States, a small stone in China, helping China's KBBF laser technology to lead the world

In the modern society with highly developed science and technology, semiconductor chip technology has become one of the main pillar industries of the modern information society.

15 years ahead of the United States, a small stone in China, helping China's KBBF laser technology to lead the world

In recent years, due to the impact of the all-round semiconductor chip blockade and ban in the United States, the mainland's investment in the field of semiconductor chips has also been increasing, for example, a large amount of funds, government incentive policies and talent training and transportation. Therefore, the mainland's semiconductor technology has also undergone tremendous changes, with greater technological improvement and industrial upgrading.

However, in the field of chip manufacturing, the KBBF crystal material developed by the mainland has made an indispensable contribution to the manufacturing of semiconductor chips, and even the United States has cast envious eyes.

It is reported that the KBBF laser crystal is the only nonlinear crystal that can directly double the frequency to produce deep ultraviolet laser, which has many characteristics such as extremely high brightness, high directionality, high monochromaticity and high coherence.

From the perspective of appearance, KBBF crystal material looks like a small "stone", which was successfully developed by Chen Chuangtian, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in the mainland. However, this small stone is a breakthrough made by the mainland in the field of semiconductor chips, which is far ahead of the United States by 15 years in this field of technology.

Prior to this, the mainland had dominated the world for a long time. It is precisely because of this small stone that China instantly became the only country in the world with deep ultraviolet laser weapons. It is reported that the KBBF crystal is an indispensable key core for intercepting and destroying intercontinental missiles and other major powers, and is also known as the core component of the industrial pearl lithography machine.

In fact, as early as the early sixties of the last century, Academician Chen Chuangtian began the research of nonlinear optical materials, however, because China had just been established at that time, there was a serious shortage of funds, technology and talents, but Chen Chuangtian did not give up and has been insisting on material research for 20 years.

Before the successful development, Chen Chuangtian has been silently sticking to the research and development position, and no one understands what he is developing, which has a mysterious effect. In 1982, Chen Chuangtian successfully synthesized BBO crystals, which shocked the world in an instant after this news was made public, and soon received the attention of the Ministry of Science and Technology of the mainland.

In 1986, at the International Conference in San Francisco, Academician Chen Chuangtian gave a very detailed product introduction to the performance of the BBO he developed, which caused a heated discussion at the venue at that time, and experts from various countries asked questions under the podium. However, the success of this achievement has also attracted the envy and jealousy of Americans, and even called it cheating.

In the eyes of the Americans, it is impossible for China to develop such an advanced product, let alone surpass the United States within a few decades. Nevertheless, the United States also had to admit its backwardness in this area. However, China quickly seized nearly eighty percent of the global crystal market because of the excellent performance of BBO crystals developed by Chen Chuangtian.

Six years later, Chen Chuangtian made a new breakthrough - 184.7 nm KBBF crystal material, which was announced and instantly made it more difficult for the United States to accept. You must know that at that time, the American scientific materials community unanimously believed that the wavelength of the laser could not be lower than 200 nanometers, and when Chen Chuangtian calmly came up with his results, he once again shocked the world.

What makes it difficult for the United States to accept is that the advanced crystals developed by the mainland can be produced by no country in the world except China, and even the United States, which has been dying about this technology for many years, has not made any achievements. Therefore, the advent of KBBF crystal also means that China has a global monopoly in this field.

At that time, the price of a piece of KBBF crystal could dissuade everyone, as high as tens of thousands of dollars, even so, there were still a large number of people who could not buy KBBF crystals in the mainland. Later, when it became known that the United States was using the crystal to develop laser weapons, the mainland announced a ban on the sale of KBBF crystals in 2009, which was also the first time that the mainland had imposed a blockade on the United States in the high-tech field.

It was not until 2016 that the United States successfully developed its own KBBF crystal. Just when the United States was happy that it had developed advanced crystals, Academician Chen Chuangtian of the mainland came up with a more advanced new generation of crystal LSBO, which was 30 years ahead of the United States, and the United States was once again slapped in the face.

It is precisely because of Academician Chen Chuangtian's years of technical contributions that China has been able to promote greater technological advantages in the field of crystal technology. For the United States, it is now also a turn of feng shui, and it is stuck in the neck of China in the high-tech field.
