Geely and BYD were the first to announce their January sales: both broke 200,000 units, let's see who is stronger

Among traditional car companies, Geely and BYD seem to be more positive than other car companies in announcing monthly sales data, and 2024 is no exception.

According to the latest January sales data released by the two automakers, Geely Automobile's sales in January were 213,500 units, a year-on-year increase of 110% and a month-on-month increase of 45.7%, while BYD's January sales were 201,500 units, of which passenger car sales were 201,000 units, a year-on-year increase of 33.9%.

After experiencing a sprint in sales at the end of last year, Geely and BYD were able to increase year-on-year in the first month of 2024, which can also reflect the strength of these two mainstream domestic car companies. In contrast, Geely Automobile's performance in January this year was more eye-catching, leading BYD by a narrow margin.

Next, let's take a closer look at the specific sales of Geely and BYD's brands and models in January this year.

Looking at Geely Automobile first, among the 213,500 sales data, 66,000 are new energy vehicles, a year-on-year increase of 591% and a month-on-month increase of 14.3%. Judging from the overall data, Geely Automobile's new energy vehicle sales in January accounted for nearly 30%.

In terms of brands, the Geely brand sold 173,000 units in January. Among them, the sales volume of the China Star high-end series was close to 47,500 units, an increase of 124% year-on-year and 73% month-on-month, the monthly sales of the Geometry series of pure electric models were close to 21,000 units, a year-on-year increase of 256%, and the monthly sales of the Geely Galaxy series were 19,000 units, and the cumulative sales have exceeded 100,000 units since its launch.

The sales performance of the two major brands of Lynk & Co and ZEEKR in January was also good, with Lynk & Co selling 28,176 units in January and ZEEKR selling 12,537 units in January. Ruilan Auto did not release sales figures, which means that sales may not be good.

Overseas, Geely Automobile exported 26,000 units in January. It increased by 79% year-on-year and 29% quarter-on-quarter.

Looking at BYD again, in the sales data of 201,000 units, the sales of Dynasty and Ocean series models reached 185,000 units in January, a year-on-year increase of 28.8%.

Although BYD did not release specific sales data for the Dynasty and Ocean series models, it is certain that models such as Tang, Han, Song, Qin, Yuan, Dolphin and Seagull will still be the best-selling models in their respective segments.

Denza Auto sold 9,068 units in January, basically the same as in December last year, with a year-on-year increase of 40.8%. At present, the main sales model of DENZA Auto is DENZA D9, and if the two models of DENZA N7 and N8 can really make efforts, then it should be easy for DENZA Auto to sell more than 20,000 yuan per month.

The sales performance of Yangwang and Formula Leopard in January this year was still excellent, of which Yangwang sold 1,652 units and Formula Leopard sold 5,203 units.

In overseas markets, BYD's sales in January also maintained a strong momentum, with exports of 36,174 units, up 247.5% year-on-year.
