Palestine had already submitted its application for membership in the United Nations in 2011 and is currently an observer at the United Nations, which began reviewing Palestine's candidacy on April 8. According to the rules of the United Nations, the admission of new members requires the support of at least nine of the 15 members of the Security Council, and at the same time, there is no veto by permanent members before they can enter the voting process of the United Nations General Assembly. At present, Palestine's application for membership in the United Nations has entered the stage of discussion in the Security Council, and according to the plan, there will be a corresponding result on 18 April. Israel firmly opposes Palestine's application to join the United Nations.
Now that the United States is faced with a new choice, it is time for the United States to make good on its promises, because it has long supported Israel but at the same time professes to support the two-state solution. If the United States supports the "two-state solution," it cannot oppose Palestine's accession to the United Nations, and therefore it cannot use the "one-vote veto," but it will once again offend Israel because of this. In fact, the United States made Israel very angry on 25 March, because the United States did not veto the Security Council resolution calling for a ceasefire between Palestine and Israel, and Israel believed that it was a wrong position for the United States not to support Israel.
According to information released by the United Nations, the United States Ambassador to the United Nations, Robert Wood, the permanent ambassador of the United States to the United Nations, publicly responded by declaring that whether or not Palestine joins the United Nations should be decided through negotiations between Palestine and Israel. The representative of Israel, Giland Elden, publicly stated that if Palestine joined the United Nations, it would threaten Israel's security, and that the international community's granting of Palestinian statehood was contrary to the Charter of the United Nations. In fact, Israel was founded on Palestinian soil, and it is a great irony that Israel today is a "dove's nest" and openly accuses Palestine of threatening Israel's security.
When Israel launched its military operation against the Palestinian Gaza Strip, the United States openly supported Israel, claiming that Israel was defending itself, but under Israel's blow, from October 7, 2023 to the present, more than 35,000 Palestinians have been killed.
In fact, it is not difficult to see from Robt Wood's statement that whether or not the United States supports Palestine's entry into the United Nations actually depends on Israel's attitude, and the United States wants to see the results of negotiations between Israel and Palestine, which is tantamount to setting conditions for Palestine to join the United Nations. At present, Palestine is mainly composed of two parts, namely the West Bank and the Gaza Strip, and the military action launched by Israel is aimed at the Gaza Strip, but it has not relaxed its high-pressure posture against the West Bank. From the perspective of Israel's long-term goal, it is to completely annex Palestine, and for this reason, Israel resolutely opposes Palestine's entry into the United Nations.
