The history of Loch Distillery can be traced back to 1814, as part of the Loch Lomain Group (in 2019, Hillhouse Capital, rooted in China, acquired Loch Lomond Group, see "Hillhouse Capital's Acquisition of Loch Lomond Group!"), which was founded in 1964 by Duncan Thomas and Barton Brands, and completed and put into operation in 1965. Loch Romain Distillery is one of the few large-scale distilleries in operation in Scotland that can produce both malt and grain whisky. At the same time, Loch Romain Distillery currently has three categories of four stills (pot stills, pot and continuous blend reflux stills <or also: mixed stills, straight-necked pot stills>, stainless steel continuous stills and pure copper continuous stills), making it the most comprehensive range of stills in Scotland's largest whisky distillery. At the same time, Loch Romain Distillery has nearly 10 sub-brands such as Old Rhosdhu, Inchmurrin, Inchfad and Inchmoan, and theoretically speaking, after adjusting the stills and blending different stills to obtain the original liquor, Loch Romain can produce dozens of original whisky spirits. When you add in the other dimensions of innovation, such as barley, yeast, peat and oak barrels, the space for innovation in Loch Romain is much broader and promising.
In April 2024, Loch Lomond launched a new whisky, Loch Lomond 50 Year Old Single Malt (L50), which was distilled on May 29, 1973 using Loch Lomond straight-necked pot stills, first matured in American oak casks for about 40 years, and then transferred to ex-bourbon casks) for 6 years before moving to Oloroso sherry casks for 50 years, 42.6% ABV, 700ml and 100 bottles.
The wine reviews are as follows:
Smell:
Aromas of citrus, refreshing mint, sweet fruits, roasted peaches and cardamom weave an intoxicating aroma;
Tasting:
On the palate, melted brown sugar, sweet apricots, sweet and sour orange marmalade intertwine with complex flavours of dark fruits, followed by cherry flavours, creamy vanilla gummies and warm cinnamon spices;
Olin:
The finish is long, with lingering notes of watermelon, kiwi, green tea and wood.
The L50 is currently available at select retailers in the UK at an official suggested retail price of £25,000, or about 225,000 yuan at the current exchange rate. In the future, the L50 will be available on select markets around the world, so if you're interested, you can consult your local wine merchants. We will continue to pay attention to future trends, if there is more information, we will bring it to you in a timely manner, and you will not miss it by following this account.
