But last month, Florida-based rating firm Certified Guaranty (CGC) announced that an intact Black Lotus card had sold for $3 million, directly breaking Magic's price record: not only was the most valuable card of its kind, but it was also the most expensive card ever sold in Magic.
Since Black Lotus has never been sold for more than $1 million before, there are many fans who are cautious about the sale. However, the buyer of the card recently revealed to foreign media that it was a perfectly legitimate deal, and he believes that $3 million is "suitable" in today's market. He also admitted that he may have "spent a little bit more", but explained that he didn't care too much because he didn't buy the card to change hands right away.
