We live in Tauranga, and although the whole city is full of autumn colours, it is not concentrated enough, so I took my family to Rotorua for the weekend.
Tauranga is only an hour's drive from Rotorua, so everyone sleeps in on weekends and leaves Rotorua for a brunch at 11am.
Many people think of Rotorua as just a spa town, but the autumn colours are so intense. Centennial Park in the heart of the city is a popular destination for autumn viewing and is a free one.
We came on a Saturday afternoon, and there weren't many tourists, so we could still take beautiful pictures. Red maple is the main color here, but it's not all red, but also yellow and orange.
There is a golden maple avenue, I don't know if the varieties are different or it has not turned red, the yellow is outstanding, and it is also popular with tourists.
Autumn in the North Island is not too cold, especially when you are under the sun, you can sweat hot. My two babies have always worn shorts and a jacket on their upper body, which is even the "high match" of the North Island winter. I came to know that there is really a reason why foreigners are so strong, and the anti-cold exercise from the doll is not in vain.

Rotorua is a naturally geothermal town, and the smell of sulphur is strong, like rotten eggs, which is particularly pungent. There are natural geothermal resources, which also attracts many tourists to come and play.
There are many geothermal parks here, most of which require a fee, and our family mainly sells one for nothing, so we went to visit the free geothermal park Kuirau Park.
In fact, the park is not special, but there are several smoking hot spring entrances, and the temperature is 100-200 degrees, which is enclosed and cannot be entered.
However, there is one place where there is no hot spring water, but there is smoke, so the temperature in that place is also very high, and there is no enclosure, so you can "boil eggs" here. We brought a few eggs and baked them in a high-temperature gravel, and in about 10-15 minutes, the eggs were fully cooked, even the yolks were very cooked. Children don't usually like to eat boiled eggs, but such natural hot spring eggs are so rare that my son can't help but say that this is the best boiled egg he has ever tasted!
The simple weekend is also a bit exciting for our first-time families, and the children get to know a little bit more about this beautiful and interesting nature.
