Let's talk about a historical event that shocked China and the rest of the world - the Huanggutun incident. This is no ordinary assassination, but a political conspiracy that could change China's fate.

The story begins in 1928. At that time, China was divided by warlords and the political situation was turbulent. In this troubled era, there is a heroic figure who is particularly eye-catching, he is Zhang Zuolin, who is known as the "King of the Northeast".

Zhang Zuolin, a warlord who started as a horse thief, relied on his extraordinary wisdom and skill to fight his way through the troubled times and became the actual ruler of the Beiyang government. However, the tree is a big trick. The rise of Zhang Zuolin not only made other domestic forces jealous, but also aroused the vigilance of the Japanese who were eyeing each other.

In June 1928, Zhang Zuolin decided to return to Fengtian (present-day Shenyang) from Beijing. This seems to be an ordinary journey, but it hides a murderous purpose. A group of careerists of the Japanese Kwantung Army planned to take this opportunity to get rid of this "Northeast King" who was in the way.

Although Zhang Zuolin was cautious, he still underestimated the viciousness of the enemy. At 5:23 a.m. on June 4, when Zhang Zuolin's special train drove to the Sandong Bridge near Huanggutun Station, an earth-shattering explosion resounded in the sky. This moment not only changed the fate of Zhang Zuolin, but also changed the course of Chinese history.

The explosion killed 20 people and injured 53. Zhang Zuolin was seriously injured and was rushed to Shenyang, but eventually died at 4:45 p.m. on the same day at the age of 53.

This assassination case, which shocked China and the rest of the world, is known as the "Huanggutun Incident". It was not only an attack on individuals, but also another naked manifestation of Japanese imperialism's aggression against China.

So, why did the Japanese kill Zhang Zuolin?

It turned out that although Zhang Zuolin once relied on Japan, as his strength increased, he began to gradually get rid of Japanese control. Especially in 1927, after Zhang Zuolin waved his army south, stationed in Beijing, and became the actual ruler of the Beiyang government, which made the Japanese feel uneasy.

Some careerists of the Japanese Kwantung Army believed that only by getting rid of Zhang Zuolin could they clear the way for the future invasion and occupation of Northeast China. So, they orchestrated this assassination attempt.

After the incident, Daisaku Kawamoto, a senior staff officer of the Japanese Kwantung Army, recorded in detail the entire planning and implementation process in his confession. They chose the Samdong Bridge as the starting point because it is located at the junction of the Sino-Japanese condominium railway, which is convenient for movement.

The assassination of Zhang Zuolin can be described as carefully planned. The Japanese brought in sappers from Korea, and it took them a full six hours to divide 120 kilograms of explosives into 30 sacks and carefully place them at key points on the piers. To ensure that nothing went wrong, they also set up two separate explosive devices and arranged for detonation personnel at a lookout 500 meters away.

The assassination had far-reaching consequences for China. First of all, it directly led to Zhang Xueliang's ascension. Zhang Xueliang succeeded his father and became the de facto ruler of the Northeast. However, the young Zhang Xueliang was a little powerless in the face of Japan's pressing step by step.

Second, the Huanggutun incident has exacerbated the contradictions between China and Japan. Although the Japanese Government has ostensibly denied any involvement in this matter, anyone with a discerning eye can see that this is another signal of Japan's aggression against China. This incident made more Chinese recognize Japan's ambitions, and the national consciousness began to awaken.

More importantly, the Huanggutun incident laid the groundwork for the later "September 18 Incident". Without Zhang Zuolin, a hardliner, the Japanese acted more unscrupulously in the Northeast. On September 18, 1931, the Japanese Kwantung Army bombarded Beidaying in Shenyang, launched the "918 Incident", and began a full-scale operation to occupy Northeast China.

Looking back on this period of history, we can't help but ask: if Zhang Zuolin had not been killed, would China's fate have been different?

This question is difficult to answer. But one thing is certain, that is, Zhang Zuolin's death accelerated the process of Japan's invasion of China. Within just three years of his death, Japan had taken full control of Tohoku. This has to be said to be a huge historical regret.

However, history has no ifs. As we look back on this history today, it is more important to draw lessons.

First, we must always be vigilant. Although Zhang Zuolin was cautious, he still underestimated the viciousness of the enemy. In international relations, we can never afford to take potential threats lightly.

Second, we need to be united. At that time, China was divided by warlords and had many internal contradictions, which gave foreign enemies an opportunity to take advantage of. Only by uniting can we defend ourselves against the invasion of foreign enemies.

Third, we must be prepared for danger in times of peace. Even in peacetime, we need to be prepared for all kinds of challenges.

In closing, I would like to say that history is a mirror. By looking back at historical events like the Huanggutun incident, we can not only better understand the past, but also provide lessons for the present and the future.

Today's China is no longer the weak country that was slaughtered by others. However, we still face a complex international environment and challenges. We must always bear in mind the lessons of history, keep a sober mind, unite as one, and strive to realize the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.
