This is a beautiful tourist route, connecting Daocheng Yading and Lugu Lake, and is known as one of the "three most American roads in China". On June 28, the opening ceremony of the highway reconstruction project from Mairi (Ganliangjie) to Baheng Yakou section of G227 line was held, which marked the full opening of the project. This section of the road is an important passage out of Yanyuan, Muli and other counties in Liangshan Prefecture, Sichuan, and an important part of the Greater Shangri-La Tourism Loop.

It is reported that this section is the last section of the G227 National Highway Upgrading and Reconstruction Project, and it is also the most difficult section of construction, and the completion of this project marks the completion of the G227 National Highway.

G227 National Highway is also known as Zhangye-Menglian Highway, starting from Zhangye, Gansu, passing through Qinghai and Sichuan to Menglian, Yunnan, with a total length of 3,745 kilometers, including 1,468 kilometers in Sichuan Province. The G227 National Highway is known as one of the "three most American highways in China".

It is understood that the route of the highway reconstruction project of the G227 line Mairi (Ganliangjie) to Baheng Yakou section starts from Mairi Township, Muli County, at the junction of Liangshan Yi Autonomous Prefecture and Ganzi Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, and ends at Baheng Yakou and connects with G227 Line Baheng Yakou to Taoba Section (Muli County, Liangshan Prefecture leads to Daocheng County, Ganzi Prefecture), with a total length of 47.8 kilometers, three-level highway technical standards, and an estimated total investment of 1.03 billion yuan, and the project will start in May 2021 with a construction period of three years.

According to the relevant person in charge of the project, the terrain and geological conditions of the whole line are complex, which is a typical alpine and valley landform, with the highest altitude of 4,200 meters, and most of the road sections are in the "no man's land". The local mountains and valleys are dense, and more than half of the construction sections are near the end and the river, not only the construction site is narrow, and the machinery and equipment are difficult to play an efficient role, but also there are various threats such as roadbed collapse, high-altitude flying rocks, and cliff falls. Problems such as high cold and lack of oxygen, heavy snow closure for months of the year, and torrential rain and flash floods have also brought huge obstacles to the progress of the project.

According to reports, the project is opened to traffic, effectively connecting the G348 line and the G549 line, forming a regional ring line between the northwest of Liangshan Prefecture and the southern part of Ganzi Prefecture, and the distance from Muli County, Liangshan Prefecture to Shangri-La Town, Daocheng County, Ganzi Prefecture will be shortened by about 100 kilometers, and the traffic time will be saved by 2.5 hours. The completion of the project will connect the two important scenic spots of Daocheng Yading and Lugu Lake.

The person in charge of the project said that after the project was opened to traffic, the tandem effect was obvious, and the proximal end was closely connected to many scenic spots such as Muli Temple, Mana Chajin Observation Deck, Daocheng Yading, etc., and the far end was linked with many popular tourist destinations such as Shangri-La and Lijiang in Yunnan, which is an industrial road to support the local development of tourism economy and a road to prosperity for the people along the line.
