Manchester United legend and expert Roy Keane has admitted he has apologised to Harry Maguire by admitting that some of the past criticisms of the defender have "crossed the line".
In addition to his career as a player and manager, Keane has built a reputation for harsh criticism on television, with even one of the best footballers in the world, Erling Haaland, being harshly judged. Centre-back Maguire has often been criticised for his performances in England and Manchester United, and perhaps none have been as fierce as Keane.
In 2021, Maguire was considered an 'absolute disgrace' to Manchester United along with Luke Shaw following the team's 5-0 defeat to Liverpool, while more recently, Keane said the 31-year-old's defensive prowess was holding the Reds back. But the Irishman revealed that he had tried to apologise to Maguire for his past remarks.
Speaking on 'Overlap', Keane said: "I'm Harry Maguire for football reasons and obviously we've played a lot at Manchester United. ”。“ He struggled at Manchester United and had a tough time in England, but even more so at club level. 'We're talking about the mental health of the players and I've crossed the line for Harry Maguire – I'm kind of laughing at him and it's not good.
"I've played this fight and I know how hard it is, but I'm tall enough. I ran into Harry a few months ago and I apologized to him. ”。“ Sometimes, as experts, we also make mistakes, but there is one thing you have to go for, and if this is for the individual, then you cross the line. ”
Maguire missed out on the chance to represent England at Euro 2024 due to injury. In his absence, Crystal Palace's Mark Guhi joined as one of the Three Lions' standout players this summer.
