Mascot of the 2006 Turin Winter Olympics

The mascots of the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, Italy, "Neve" and "Glitz". "Neve" means snow and "gliz" means "ghiaccio" which means ice.

Design Prototype:

Snowballs and ice cubes. The image of "Neve" is a little girl dressed in red, red represents harmony and elegance, with a round head shaped like a snowball; "Gritz" is a little boy dressed in blue, with a square head shaped like a small square ice cube, and blue represents strength. In Italian, they symbolize two indispensable elements of the Winter Olympics – snow and ice.

Design Concept:

Ice and snow are the elements of the Winter Olympics, and the cute and lively shapes of the two mascots vividly demonstrate the movement of ice and snow and the power of athletes. These two mascots are also symbols of the new generation, full of energy and love, who love sports and dare to face the challenges of life.

Designers:

Pretty Snowman Navi and Ice Cube Griz are the work of Portuguese designer Pedro Albuquerque. The creation of the mascot is the subject of an international competition launched three years before the start of the Olympic Games. The competition is open to design, advertising and graphic design agencies, as well as independent graphic designers. Five finalists were selected from the 237 proposals received; The winner is a Portuguese designer and is selected by the Office of the President of the Organizing Committee.
