St. Mark's Square: In 828, two Venetian merchants from Alexandria, Egypt, smuggled the bones of the Saint Mark to Venice and built a church. It has been the political, religious and festival center of Venice and has been the seat of the archbishop since the 19th century. The square is surrounded by a number of beautiful, Renaissance-style buildings. Such as St. Mark's Basilica, the Mint, the Doge's Palace, the old and new administrative buildings, and the Napoleon Building.
