Guarding the Xiamen-Jin Sea: The Firmness and Preparation of the China Coast Guard
In the vast ocean, every sea area carries the dignity and rights of the country. Chinese fishermen have worked hard for generations in this traditional fishing ground in the Xiajin Sea, and fishing operations are the source of their livelihoods. In recent years, however, the calm of the sea has been shattered by outside interference, and the normal operational behavior of Chinese fishermen has been challenged. Against this backdrop, the East China Sea Branch of the China Coast Guard resolutely stood up and shouldered the heavy responsibility of safeguarding the rights and interests of fishermen and exercising law enforcement powers, and resolutely went to the relevant waters to carry out law enforcement patrols.
It was noted that during the operation, the East China Sea Branch of the China Coast Guard dispatched three 2,000-ton coast guard vessels - 2201, 2202 and 2203. These three ships, although they have a powerful appearance and a sturdy hull, are slightly lacking in firepower. Of course, in the face of the current situation, such a firepower configuration can still cope, but if the Coast Guard is really desperate to "increase the weight", then the existing firepower configuration may seem a little stretched.
The predecessors of these three coast guard ships are all decommissioned 053H2 series frigates of the Navy. 2201 was the Navy's Anqing ship, 2202 was the Huainan ship, and 2203 was the Huaibei ship. After being transferred to the Coast Guard, they underwent modifications to accommodate maritime law enforcement. Heavy equipment such as 100-mm guns and anti-ship missiles, which were originally equipped on the ship, were dismantled, and only the Navy's four Type 76A twin-mounted 37-mm naval guns remained. However, over time, the four twin 37mm guns were also replaced with lightweight, low-cost equipment - four twin 25mm naval guns.
Behind this, there are considerations. Although the Navy's 76A twin 37 naval gun is technically mature and powerful, as a fully automatic equipment, it fires the guidance of radar or optical sights. After the transfer to the coast guard, complex equipment such as fire control radars was dismantled, and only an optical sight remained. However, for four 37-mm guns, such sighting equipment was clearly somewhat stretched. In contrast, the twin 25mm guns were lightweight, simple, and could be fired entirely manually. In addition, this naval gun is not high-tech and relatively low-cost, making it suitable for use by the coast guard.
However, the firepower of the twin 25-mm guns was limited after all, and its power was equivalent to that of an oversized machine gun. In the face of the Coast Guard's "elite" workhorse Coast Guard vessels, the Coast Guard's fleet of twin 25mm guns may come under pressure. Taking the "Kaohsiung" class coast guard of the Coast Guard as an example, this type of ship is the largest coast guard ship of the Coast Guard, with a displacement of nearly 4,000 tons, and is equipped with 20 mm cannons, 40 mm fast guns and other powerful firepower equipment. In addition, the Coast Guard also has a 2,000-ton cruiser "New North Ship", which is also equipped with a caliber 40 rapid gun and a fire control system. The ability of these equipment to suppress fire at sea should not be underestimated.
In the face of such challenges, it is necessary for the China Coast Guard to be fully prepared. After years of construction and development, the overall strength of the China Coast Guard has leapt to the forefront of the world. With many powerful coast guard ships with large hulls and fierce firepower, these ships will become the "anchor of the sea" to protect this sea area once they are dispatched to the Xiajin waters.
Take the China Coast Guard's 10,000-ton law enforcement vessels 2901 and 3901 as an example, which are the world's largest maritime law enforcement vessels in service and have powerful firepower equipment. The two law enforcement vessels are equipped with one 76-mm main gun and two 30-mm secondary guns, which can achieve fire suppression and fire support at sea. In addition, in order to adapt to various maritime law enforcement scenarios, the two law enforcement vessels are also equipped with reinforced bow impact angles, which can easily break each other's waists at a speed of 25 knots. Such equipment configuration and tactical means make these two law enforcement vessels the right-hand man of the Chinese coast guard in maritime law enforcement.
In addition to the 10,000-ton law enforcement vessels, the China Coast Guard also owns the 4,000-ton Type 818 Coast Guard vessel. The hull of this ship is similar to that of the Navy's Type 054A frigates, and is equipped with powerful 76 mm fully automated naval guns, two 6-barreled 30 mm close defense guns, and other fire equipment. In addition, the vessels are equipped with four high-pressure long-range water cannons, several high-noise dispersers, and four detachable 12.7mm heavy machine guns, which can be used in conjunction with a variety of tactical means at sea.
The strength of the Chinese Coast Guard far exceeds that of Taiwan's local Coast Guard. It has advanced equipment, powerful firepower and rich law enforcement experience.
