Spending the hot summer by the water or the sea is undoubtedly a pleasant choice that people yearn for. When the fiery sun shines on the earth, the hustle and bustle of the city seems to be engulfed by the heatwave, and the world by the water becomes a cool paradise.

There is a saying in China: "Don't bully the mountains and the water." "The seemingly calm rivers, lakes and seashores may actually harbor all kinds of dangers, some of which even threaten people's lives.

Get in the water for a swim

Beware of drowning

The water conditions of rivers, lakes and seas are complex, and rapids, undercurrents, and whirlpools may exist at any time, and the depth of the water and the bottom of the water are unknown, and drowning often occurs in these places. In addition, if you do not prepare well before entering the water, your muscles are prone to cramps when the water temperature is low, which can lead to drowning.

Be careful not to swim in unfamiliar waters with no safety facilities and no rescue personnel.

Before swimming, you should do 5~10 minutes of full-body muscle stretching. The process of entering the water should be slow, and the body should be wet while entering the water to allow the body to adapt to the temperature difference before and after entering the water and prevent muscle spasms. People with underlying medical conditions such as heart disease, high blood pressure, and diabetes are not recommended to go into the water.

The swimming time should not be too long to prevent muscle cramps caused by excessive physical exertion. Before swimming and when resting ashore, you should drink salty drinks appropriately to replenish water and electrolytes in the body.

Drowning occurs

What to do

For drowning people

In the event of drowning, people usually panic and even struggle blindly, which in turn reduces the probability of survival. If you are drowning, the most important thing is to learn to calm yourself down.

If there is floating objects around, you must grasp it and use the strength to surface. If there are people around, call for help immediately.

If there is no one around, relax your whole body as much as possible, try to take yourself in the backstroke position, tilt your head back so that your mouth and nose can breathe out of the water, paddle regularly with your hands and legs, don't panic, conserve your strength, and wait for rescue.

When muscle cramps occur, if there are people around, you should explain your leg cramps to the people around you as soon as possible, and if you can hold on, swim to the shore as soon as possible; If there is no one around or you can't move, you can adjust to a backstroke position, use your hand to push the toes of the cramped leg to the side of the foot, and wait for the cramp to subside, and then slowly swim back to shore.

If you get entangled in underwater objects (such as aquatic weeds), do not panic and avoid kicking indiscriminately, so as not to get tighter and tighter in aquatic weeds. If there are people around, ask them for help; If there is no one around, take a deep breath, dive in, slowly untangle or tear off the weeds, and get out of the water as quickly as possible.

For rescuers

You can make full use of the rescue equipment and materials around you (lifebuoys, life jackets, ropes, floating objects, etc.), call for rescue as soon as possible, and non-professionals should not rush into the water.

After the drowning person is rescued from shore, his vital signs should be judged immediately. Use force to pat the drowning person on the shoulder and shout loudly. If the drowning victim is still breathing and conscious, you can cover him with a towel to keep him warm, and observe if there is any other discomfort, and then send him to the hospital for further examination.

The core cause of drowning is the lack of oxygen after choking, and the golden time for rescue is only 4 minutes, so when the drowning person who has been unconscious is rescued ashore, the most critical treatment measure is to restore his breathing as soon as possible.
