In February 1979, due to Vietnam's repeated provocations, the mainland launched a self-defense counterattack against Vietnam. The People's Liberation Army conquered the cities of Lao Cai, Cao Bang and Lang Son, taught Vietnam a hard lesson, and then withdrew its troops from the mainland. However, what is little known is that the land conflict between China and Vietnam did not completely end after the end of the self-defense counterattack war against Vietnam, and Vietnam still provoked border conflicts from time to time in a vain attempt to invade and occupy the mountainous areas on the mainland border and establish strongholds, which led to the "Two Mountains Round War" from 1984 to 1989.
In April 1984, the 40th Division of the 14th Army and the 31st Division of the 11th Army launched counterattacks against the Vietnamese troops who had invaded and occupied the Lao Son and Zheyin Mountains, recovering these two important strongholds in one fell swoop and inflicting heavy losses on the Vietnamese army. However, the Vietnamese army was unwilling to fail, and then launched counterattacks many times, trying to retake Lao Son and Zheyin Mountain. The mainland also took advantage of the situation to use Lao Son and Zheyin Mountain as "training grounds" and launched a tug-of-war with Vietnam in these "two mountains" area.
The Chinese and Vietnamese armies clashed many times, and the seven major military regions of the People's Liberation Army took turns to fight, and finally the Chengdu Military Region ended up. Our army successfully held Laoshan and Zheyin Mountain, and the "Two Mountains Round Battle" ended victoriously. And Fu Quanyou, which we are going to talk about today, played an important role in the stage of the Nanjing Military Region's rotational warfare.
On July 12, 1984, our army inflicted heavy losses on the Vietnamese army in the Battle of Songmaoling. The next day, the central authorities telegraphed and ordered some troops of the 1st Army and the 12th Army of the Nanjing Military Region to go to the front line to replace the troops of the Kunming Military Region. The two armies completed the change of defense in December, and Fu Quanyou continued to hold on to Laoshan.
At the beginning of 1985, the Vietnamese army, unwilling to be defeated, changed its strategy under the command of Commander Le Wei Honey and began to adopt the tactic of "digging trenches and advancing". That is, to mobilize troops to dig a large number of trenches, and gradually approach our positions under the cover of trenches, so as to reduce the charging distance, and at the same time bombard our positions with artillery to provide cover for trench digging operations.
The tactics of the Vietnamese army may seem clever, but in fact they have long been outdated. Our army used similar tactics as early as the Anti-Japanese War, so how could there be no way to deal with it? In the eyes of our army, this set of the Vietnamese army is nothing more than pediatrics. Our army had already made targeted defensive arrangements, and the Vietnamese army had failed to find anything in its repeated charges, but had paid the price of more than 1,300 casualties.
The defeat of the Vietnamese army also made our army see an opportunity, and the higher authorities decided to launch the "851 operation" on February 11 to launch a key counterattack against the Vietnamese army, and this counterattack was precisely for which Fu Quanyou was responsible. It is worth mentioning that at that time, computer technology had already been initially applied in the mainland. Although Fu Quanyou is over 50 years old, he is "not old at heart," attaches great importance to the development of new technologies, and personally inspects the results of computer applications many times, which has played an important role in the battle of the new era.
On the eve of the counterattack, Fu Quanyou specially ordered more than a dozen cannons to be disassembled and transported to the east mountain of the Bali River, and also specially instructed to transport more spare barrels and ammunition, which consumed a lot of manpower and material resources, and some people did not understand it at that time.
However, facts have proved that Fu Quanyou was far-sighted, and after the counterattack began, our army conquered all the target positions in one day. The Vietnamese army immediately mobilized superior forces to launch a counterattack, but our artillery opened heavy fire on the Vietnamese army from the commanding heights, and repeatedly repelled the Vietnamese army's attacks. Thanks to the mobilization of sufficient spare barrels and ammunition in advance, our troops were able to continue firing. The Vietnamese army was unable to recapture its position after paying a very heavy price, and the Vietnamese commander Le Wei Mi was removed from his post as a result.
Beginning in May 1985, the troops of the Nanjing Military Region gradually withdrew from their positions, and the troops of the Jinan Military Region changed their defenses, and Fu Quanyou led the army to victory. Due to his outstanding performance in the Battle of the Two Mountains, Fu Quanyou was soon promoted to commander of the Chengdu Military Region.
