Cyberpunk 2077 (and its expansion) does a good job of presenting a rich, dense cyberpunk setting to players, but some might argue that CD Projekt RED may not have been at its best in terms of thematic depth and subtlety given the depth and subtlety of the "cyberpunk" genre itself.
In fact, the game's development team members agree with this sentiment to some extent, saying that they want to bring significant improvements in the sequel. Currently, the sequel to Cyberpunk 2077 is in early pre-production at CD Projekt RED's new branch in North America.
In an episode of CDPR's "AnswerRed" podcast, co-game director Pavel Sasco spoke about Cyberpunk 2077's lack of "pushing the limits" in terms of "social portrayal." "I see that we're not 'pushing the limits' in some areas, like the homelessness crisis, and when I see it, I think, 'We didn't go into that in Cyberpunk 2077,'" he said. We thought we were dystopian, but only scratched the surface. ”
Dan Hernberg, executive producer of Project Orion, also had his say: "I think what's really cool about Cyberpunk and its dystopian future is that it has so much relevance to today's realities, such as big corporations, marginalized people, people being treated as a resource, the gap between rich and poor, and so on. I think the year 2077 allows us to tell these stories in a way that always focuses on people and relationships at a core level, but we live in a fragmented world and we can point out some of these issues. For me, Cyberpunk explores these themes – but in a very moving way.
Last October, CD Projekt announced that the sequel to Cyberpunk 2077 had entered the "concept design" stage. The next big project that the company is currently working on in full swing is The Witcher 4, which will soon enter full production.
