The South Korean military stressed that the exercise was not only to "strengthen the sharpness of artillery combat readiness, but also to be able to respond quickly and decisively in the event of an enemy provocation." South Korea plans to regularize such exercises and drills in border areas, demonstrating its unwavering determination to defend itself.

This is the second border violation less than two weeks after a similar incident on 9 June, which has once again escalated tensions on the Korean peninsula.
