The shocking project diverted the flood of the Yangtze River to the Yellow River to build the Huanghan Canal

The Datong Hydrological Station in Meilong Township, Chizhou, Anhui Province, recorded the largest flow ever recorded in the main stream of the lower reaches of the Yangtze River. On August 1, 1954, 92,600 cubic meters per second. This data has not been broken so far, and it has become an important parameter for flood prevention and drought control and water conservancy project construction and water environmental protection in the main stream of the Yangtze River, including the construction of Gezhouba and the Three Gorges Water Conservancy Project.

Recently, affected by continuous heavy rainfall and water from the upper reaches of the Yangtze River, the Anhui section of the main stream of the Yangtze River has exceeded the warning water level.

From the 27th, the outflow of the Three Gorges Reservoir was gradually reduced from 24,000 cubic meters per second to 18,000 cubic meters per second, and further reduced to 14,000 cubic meters per second on the 28th. The water level of the Three Gorges Reservoir rose by about 2.9 meters compared with the previous two days, and the flood water was impounded by about 1.46 billion cubic meters.

In comparison, the design flow of the middle line of the South-to-North Water Diversion Project is only 420 cubic meters per second.

More than 10,000 cubic meters per second of flood water has enormous energy. But often there is only a destructive effect.

Is it impossible for a flood to turn harm into treasure? Unless it can store water for power generation like the Three Gorges, or store water like the Xiaolangdi Reservoir and then store water to flush sand and store and drain turbidity.

Here we propose a new idea, using flood water to dig canals.

We know that in recent years, tens of billions of cubic meters of flood have been discharged from the Danjiang Estuary every year.

If we divert the flood water from the Danjiang Estuary to the Yellow River every year, it will not only reduce the flood control pressure in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River. Moreover, it is possible to use the flood water of the Danjiangkou Reservoir to build a waterway from the Danjiangkou to the Yellow River.

The middle route of the South-to-North Water Diversion Project will be turned into a river course washed by natural floods.

The altitude of Yanshan Reservoir is 105 meters, and the low level of the Yellow River in Lankao is below 55 meters. The drop is more than 50 meters, and the length is about 330 kilometers. In the future, the flood erosion of the Yellow River will be greatly reduced.

The flood control water level of Danjiangkou Reservoir is 146 meters, and the elevation of the bottom plate of the canal head is 140 meters. The head of the canal is 530 kilometers from the Yellow River to Lankao, with a drop of 90 meters.

Here it needs to be mentioned that the watershed between Fangcheng Pass, Baiguishan Reservoir and Ru River is 134 meters and 118 meters above sea level, respectively

If the diversion canal from the head of the canal to the mouth of Fangcheng Pass is widened and excavated, the design flow rate will be expanded to 900 cubic meters per second.

And after passing the Fangcheng Pass, it flows into the Yanshan Reservoir in the form of a broken embankment. The flow rate will reach more than 2 meters, and the flow rate will be doubled. During the flood season, we discharge more than 20 billion yuan of the annual flood discharge from the Danjiang Estuary into the newly dug canal.

Under the action of the flood, it will be possible to build a natural river channel and divert all the flood water of the Huai River and the Han River into the Yellow River during the flood season.

The construction cost of such a project is extremely low. It's a drop in the bucket for a huge China.
