(NASDAQ: MAR) has released its 2024 360-degree Annual Report on Good Deeds, revealing the Group's progress towards its 2025 Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) global dimensions and the Company's progress toward its 2025 sustainability and social impact goals. The report also shares Marriott International's performance data as of December 31, 2023, which can be accessed here.
Marriott International Releases 360-Degree Annual Report on Good Deeds
This year, the report also includes a "Global Highlights Overview" highlighting the Group's environmental, social and governance (ESG) initiatives in each region – Asia Pacific (excluding Greater China), the Caribbean and Latin America, Europe, the Middle East and Africa, Greater China, and the United States and Canada. In addition, the report includes a "Performance Matrix and Appendices" to provide key supporting information and data.

In support of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Marriott International's sustainability and social impact platform, Acts for Good 360, guides the company's environmental, social and governance (ESG) actions in four key areas, known as 'coordinates', including: caring for society, promoting its development, continuing to operate responsibly, providing opportunities, promoting talent development and inclusion for all, and advancing human rights.
The report also details Marriott International's efforts and data on sustainable operations, diversity and inclusion, volunteerism, and other environmental, social, and governance (ESG) initiatives undertaken by its employees and hotels around the world. Among them, highlights on a global scale include:
Focus on climate action:
- In April 2024, Marriott International approved its short- and long-term science-based targets through the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).
- The Climate Action Plan (CAP) was launched for hotels managed and franchised by Marriott International around the world, aiming to promote climate consensus across the group and set energy conservation and carbon reduction targets based on the specific circumstances of each hotel to support the achievement of group-level science-based carbon reduction targets.
- Continue to expand Marriott International's EV charging pile infrastructure. By the end of 2023, more than 7,100 EV chargers had been installed at more than 1,800 of our hotels worldwide.
In addition, Marriott International is focused on expanding employment opportunities and living the core values of serving the world, including:
- In 2023, Marhao International has volunteered more than 3.1 million hours in the communities where it operates around the world, and since 2016, its employees have accumulated more than 12.1 million hours of volunteer service.
- Marriott International is responding to the devastating wildfire disaster on the Hawaiian island of Maui. Approximately $5.5 million was donated through the Marriott Disaster Relief Fund, the TakeCare Relief Fund, Marriott Bonvoy points donations, and cash and in-kind donations from our hotels. At the same time, Marriott International has also provided essential supplies to employees affected by the wildfires.
- Marriott International has pledged to employ more than 3,000 refugees worldwide by 2026.
- Since 2016, Marriott International has trained more than 1.2 million employees at its managed and franchised hotels to build awareness of human trafficking, with the goal of training all employees on the job by 2025.
- Marriott International, in partnership with the Internet Watch Foundation and Cisco, has launched an industry-first initiative. The initiative, which aims to block websites with content related to child sexual abuse, has reached nearly 5,000 hotels managed and franchised by Marriott International in the United States and Canada.
Highlights of other areas:
- Marriott International's U.A.E. Business Council raised nearly $970,000 in cash and in-kind donations through its annual Road to Awakening (R2A) ride fundraiser to support organizations focused on children's health and well-being.
- Marriott International supports the release of approximately 110,000 sea turtles through a turtle and turtle habitat conservation program at its hotels in Mexico.
- Marriott International partnered with Scholars of Sustenance to collect more than 81,000 kilograms (178,000 pounds) of surplus food at 66 hotels in Thailand, Indonesia and the Philippines and convert it into more than 340,000 meals to donate to communities in need.
- In Greater China, Marriott International employs more than 1,200 people with disabilities as full-time employees.
- Marriott International, in its hotels operated in the United States and Canada, increased spending on cage-free eggs to 56.13% and 47.18%, respectively.
