With this in mind, Mecanismo conceived a new design and construction concept for the Akelarre Hotel. The precise choice of materials, furnishings and details gives the hotel its distinctive character; Different materials act as a link to connect concepts, forms and functions in the design. The use of stone, wood and linen respects the intrinsic nature of natural materials, while catering to new technologies and needs, giving a unique meaning to the project and the design team.

As the building volume changes, the materials that still maintain a sense of continuity shape the geometry and define the design ideas and functional layout of the entire building, while giving the residence a unique and diverse atmosphere and distinctive features.
▼ Five stone cottages face the sea with mountains in their backs, including a total of 22 sea-view rooms
It is located in the north of the Igueldo Mountains, facing the Cantabric sea, just a few kilometres from the centre of San Sebastián. The old building, surrounded by the hotel, contains a famous three-Michelin-starred restaurant. Five stone huts face the sea and contain a total of 22 rooms on two floors. Six spaces slightly embedded in the stone cottage platform are integrated with the hotel's terrace. The terraces are likewise made of stone masonry and are connected to the rest of the platform by a planked garden area. This approach is designed to ensure an excellent horizontal view.
▼Open-air deck
Each floor is connected longitudinally by a fully timber-covered traffic space, with direct access to the hotel's public areas such as the wellness centre, dining bar, wine cellar and lounge. Each space has its own unique scene, and at the same time, it unifies the entire hotel space with a unified formal language and materials. In these spaces, the Oteiza Restaurant and the Restaurant present a different style, thus guaranteeing the dominance of the latter. The open space is designed to attract and welcome customers, while bringing spectacular panoramic views into the interior through the windows.

The wine cellar, located on the same floor as the lounge, is divided into two areas, one for the production room and the other for wine storage and display, separated by a large glass wall. The tall tasting table becomes the main part of the space, and the position of the light highlights the presence of the wine bottles, which is one of the most important elements in the restaurant's wine cellar.
