Figure One of the sketches of Chongqing - the "Flying Pavilion" on the Goose Ridge
Landscape sketching has been a topic of exploration for decades. Whenever I go abroad or on official business, in addition to drawing people, I prefer to record the local scenery and landscape in the form of sketches, and I have drawn them with pencils, charcoal, pens, and ballpoint pens, and I have also published several booklets.
Figure Chongqing Sketch No. 2 - "Light Rail Crossing Building" at Liziba Station
It strives to quickly record the vivid feelings of a certain place and a certain scene in the heart, and make it a work of art that can convey visual enjoyment in the conciseness and incompleteness of the expression technique. Not only practice the eyes and pen, but also leave a trace of your whereabouts.
Figure Chongqing Sketch No. 3 - Hongya Cave
Sketching is an alien art form. Many Western painting masters prefer to paint landscape sketches, and I strive to combine the elements of Chinese painting with sketches to paint Chinese-style landscape sketches.
Figure Chongqing Sketch No. 4 - People's Liberation Monument
This art form also facilitates communication with the viewer. In foreign countries, it is difficult for them to resonate with the brush and ink of Chinese painting, while landscape sketches can fit their art appreciation habits, and the local scenery painted is also easy to resonate with them.
Figure: Chongqing Sketch No. 5 - Shancheng Alleytop Anti-Japanese War Hospital
Every time I go to a new place and face a new landscape, I am solving a new problem. Every time I pick up a paintbrush to sketch a scene, I will examine it with a fresh eye, trying to find out the representative symbols of this place and scene, and find the "painting eye" that emphasizes the prominence, so as to express it with corresponding personalized techniques. Avoid stylization and conceptualization, emphasizing freshness and sketching.
Figure Chongqing Sketch No. 6 - Eighteen Ladders Overlook
I enjoyed the process, so the feelings of bitterness, heat, tiredness, and fatigue were all offset. This time I came to Chongqing to paint Chongqing, it was a hot weather and rainy weather, either exposed to the sun or rain, the environment was damp and sweaty, and then dried, re-wet several times, plus mosquito bites continued, but the beautiful scenery inspired and the careful service of friends of the Revolutionary Committee of the People's Republic of China did not delay the sketching. This time, I deepened my understanding of sketching and drew sketches that were different from the past.
